{UAH} Uganda: Such Big Babies, These Men!

Uganda: Such Big Babies, These Men!

30 JULY 2013

The Observer (Kampala)

Stella, 38, seems out of breath with dirty shirts on her arm, when I carry in 27-year-old Trish's bags with Joanna, 32, close on our heels. The girls are at Stella's for lunch.

Stella: Are men always this messy? Bannange, at this rate my grounds for divorce will be unprecedented!

Katie: Hmm, at least be thankful that he goes to the bathroom by himself; he does not need potty training like puppies.

Joanna: Trouble in paradise? Alur is supposed to be the angel, I thought?

Stella: That he is, but all this picking up after him? Surely!

Trish: And where were you looking when you visited his home while you were dating? The ceiling?

[The other girls laugh so hard, but Stella is not amused.]

Stella: For your information, he was very neat when I visited. There was even a cleaning lady back then...

Trish: ...That is called bait. All guys do that, until you arrive.

Stella: What do you know about what they do until you arrive? You are not married.

Trish: And not aspiring to be any time soon.

Katie: I hear you, Trish. I mean, how do you know he is the one? I bet you, Stella, you didn't know he was untidy when you were dating.

Joanna: Surely he can't be that messy. Reinstate the cleaning lady then.

Stella: Hmm, I fired her for over-efficiency. She was bustling around my house like the 'madam' of the home!

Joanna: So, where is the crisis then? You seem to have made your bed...

Stella: Is it too much for him to put both his socks in the laundry basket, put the toilet seat down and hang up his wet towel? I fear for when my babies come.

Trish: I hear you married people fondly call your husbands your first babies - even as they leave you skid marks in their boxers to wash up. Yuck! Anything for my single life!

Katie: I will drink to that, Trish; let's go, I am thirsty after this man-talk.

Trish takes her bags from me and hands me receipts to go pick up her laundry from the drycleaner's.

{UAH} A VERY SERIOUS BUT TRUE JOKE

A woman went to her doctor for advice.

She told him that her husband had developed a penchant for anal sex, and she was not sure that it was such a good idea.

"Do you enjoy it?" The doctor asked.
"Actually, yes, I do."
''Does it hurt you?" he asked.
"No.. I rather like it."
''Well, then," the doctor continued, "there's no reason that you shouldn't practice anal sex, if that's what you like, so long as you take care not to get pregnant."

The woman was mystified. "What? You can get pregnant from anal sex?"

"Of course," the doctor replied. "Where Do you think politicians come from?"

{UAH} LandscapeHD reaches into Africa - Uganda

LandscapeHD reaches into Africa

July 31, 2013 07.56 Europe/London By

LandscapeHD will be available throughout Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Malawi, Mozambique and Burundi with a satellite footprint covering East and Central Africa.

The first commercial DTH satellite broadcasting of a linear 1080p television channel will commence in Africa later this year, as the result of the agreement by Sahara Media of Tanzania to broadcast the Landscape Channel in full HD, commencing this autumn. The broadcaster said it is a first for technology and for Africa.

LandscapeHD is a free to air music channel funded by national government tourism advertising, as well as global and local brand advertising, in a new languageless format only seen on the Landscape Channel. "It takes global languagless tourism and destination advertising, previously used on the internet, and delivers it into traditional television broadcast homes using its new proprietary mini-server IP distribution system. This is connected to normal in-home television services (such as cable, satellite and now the fast developing connected tv market)."

According to LamndscapeHD, "this unique distribution system is expected to deliver a raft of new specialist music channels into traditional television distribution over the coming twelve months, as distributors discover how this new technology can deliver specialist music channels anywhere in the world, without the traditional costs associated with broadcast servers and rights societies determined to squeeze the life out of minority music channels by the charges they levy for specialist music at the same rate as pop music."

Tourism in Rwanda: genocide memorials as well as gorillas

KIGALI: Rwanda, which has staged a remarkable recovery in the years since the 1994 genocide, has opened visitors' eyes to its past by putting its genocide memorials on the tourist circuit, alongside its iconic mountain gorillas.

The aim, tour operators and government officials say, is to enable tourists to understand the country's recent history and to appreciate the scale of the progress achieved.

In the garden of the main genocide memorial in Kigali's Gisozi district, Anne Porbadnigk, a 30-year-old from Berlin, stops in front of every commemorative plaque, listening carefully to her audio-guide.

"It's actually our first day here. We arrived four hours ago," she told AFP.

Both Porbadnigk and the friend she is with say in order to comprehend modern Rwanda, they need to understand "not only what happened but also how the pe

{UAH} Luweero - Verge of A New Revolutional Era

Children go fishing - as wazelendo go farming.

He says most of the pupils have resorted to selling bananas and fishing, leaving the classes almost empty. He says the most affected is the primary one class which had 73 pupils at start of this year but now boasts of only 14 pupils, P2 has seven out of 46, P3 has eight from 51 and Primary Five with five pupils up from 62.

Ujima explains that they have tried to sweet talk parents to encourage their children to stay in school in vain. He says that a large number of his former pupils pass by the school each day to go fishing at River Mayanja. Ujima says that although the school was established in 1986, only two of its former pupils have become grade 3 teachers, which has created a negative attitude amongst the community towards education.

{UAH} CHINESE OBSERVERS DISMISS MDC-T RIGGING CLAIMS

Chinese observers dismiss MDC-T rigging claims

July 31, 2013 A Allen Top Stories No comments

Zvamaida Murwira Senior Reporter
The Chinese election observer mission leader, Mr Liu Guijin, has described as baseless claims by the MDC-T that the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission tampered with special voting ballot papers.Mr Liu, who was once Chinese ambassador to Zimbabwe in the 1990s and now leading a five-member team, said this during a press conference where the mission was giving their pre-election assessment report.

“We are not here to make judgment on the election. There have been some allegations and counter-allegations some of which are baseless. While some of them are small flaws, according to the brief we got from stakeholders like the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission and what we have read from newspapers about ballot papers abandoned in the dustbin, ZEC has made some good argument on that.

So, that is probably a kind of some baseless accusation against ZEC,” said Mr Liu, who is also China’s special representative to Africa.
Mr Liu said they commended ZEC for being able to organise elections within a short period given its financial position where it had limited resources.

“The country is having harmonised election where it is electing the President, Parliamentary representatives and local authorities, it is quite complicated. This needs a lot of logistics and financial support,” he said.

He commended political parties and other stakeholders for the peaceful environment that existed prior to the polls. “The atmosphere is peaceful and all stakeholders have been working on comparatively good foundation for peace, which is commendable and appreciable,” he said.

Mr Liu said the Chinese government would continue to maintain its good relations with Zimbabwe and work with a new Government to emerge from the election.

O.J. Simpson gets parole on some charges in 2008 Las Vegas convictions; more time to serve

The Canadian PressBy Sandra Chereb, The Associated Press | The Canadian Press

CARSON CITY, Nev. - O.J. Simpson won a small victory Wednesday in his bid for freedom as Nevada granted him parole on some of his 2008 convictions for kidnapping and armed robbery involving the holdup of two sports memorabilia dealers at a Las Vegas hotel room.

But the decision doesn't mean Simpson will be leaving prison anytime soon. The former NFL star was convicted on multiple charges and still faces at least four more years behind bars on sentences that were ordered to run consecutively.

The Nevada Board of Parole Commissioners released its decision in favour of Simpson's parole request Wednesday. Commissioners noted Simpson's "positive institutional record" and his participation in programs addressing "behaviour that led to incarceration."

"We expected it," Patricia Palm, one of Simpson's current lawyers, told The Associated Press shortly after the order was issued. "There is no reason not to grant him parole. I'm glad they did what they should have done."

Palm said Simpson called from prison to let her know of the board's decision.

"He's very happy and grateful," she said.

The parole becomes effective Oct. 2. Then, Simpson will begin serving the minimum term on four concurrent sentences imposed for using a weapon during the 2007 robbery. He will have another parole hearing on those sentences in a year.

After that, he has two more consecutive terms for assault with a deadly weapon, said David Smith, spokesman for the board.

The board noted Simpson had no previous criminal convictions and still has consecutive sentences to serve. Simpson was tried for murder but acquitted in Los Angeles for the 1994 death of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ronald Goldman.

Simpson appeared before a two-member Nevada parole panel last Thursday to plead for leniency. He expressed regret for his actions and said he's tried to be a model inmate while behind bars.

Lovelock Correctional Center officials say he's had no disciplinary actions against him.

Simpson was convicted in December 2008 on charges including kidnapping, robbery, burglary and assault with a deadly weapon. He was sentenced to nine to 33 years for the 2007 stick up of two memorabilia dealers, Alfred Beardsley and Bruce Fromong.

Simpson still faces time for four weapon enhancement sentences, following by consecutive terms for two counts of assault with a deadly weapon.

During last week's parole hearing, a greying Simpson told Parole Commissioner Susan Jackson and hearing officer Robin Bates, a retired Nevada prison warden, that he was sorry for his actions.

"I just wish I never went to that room," the 66-year-old Simpson said. He added he has made amends with Beardsley and Fromong.

While in prison, Simpson has earned pennies an hour working in the prison gym, keeping equipment sanitized, and umpiring and coaching games in the prison yard.

He said he made a promise to the warden when he arrived at Lovelock, 90 miles east of Reno, that he would be the "best person" they ever had at the facility. He added, "I think for the most part I've kept my word on that."

Simpson also said he's acted as jailhouse counsellor of sorts to other inmates, some of whom are serving time for similar crimes.

But he said his deed was different.

"They were trying to steal other people's property," Simpson said of other prisoners. "They were trying to steal other people's money.

"My crime was trying to retrieve for my family my own property."

While Simpson remains behind bars, his best chance at freedom lies with Clark County District Judge Linda Marie Bell, who is considering whether he deserves a new trial.

During a May hearing, Palm and Ozzie Fumo, Simpson's current lawyers, argued that his trial attorney, Yale Galanter, botched Simpson's defence and had a conflict of interest in the case.

Bell has yet to issue a decision. If she rules in Simpson's favour, prosecutors will have to decide wither to retry him, offer a plea deal, or set him free with credit for time served.

{UAH} LUGANDA INTERPRETER URGENTLY NEEDED AND MUST BE RESIDING IN USA:

LUGANDA INTERPRETER URGENTLY NEEDED AND MUST BE RESIDING IN USA:We have a request from the Los Angeles Police Department for a Luganda interpreter to assist a detective in the interview of a few people who speak only Luganda.  This interpretation session is set for Thursday, August 8th, at 8:30 am Pacific Standard Time (PST).  The session will take place over-the-phone (the detective will have the interpreter on speaker in the interview room and the interpreter will then be able to interpret for the detective and the Luganda-speakers) so there is no need for the interpreter to be located in California.  They can be located anywhere in the U.S. as long as they have a reliable phone connection and are available the morning of August 8th.

Please get in touch with me on: abbeysemuwemba@gmail.com. The rate can be discussed and negotiated directly with the potential interpreter.  The interpreter also DOES NOT have to be a certified or trained interpreter. Thank you
