{UAH} KYABAZINGASHIP ROTATUIONAL NOT HEREDITARY

President Museveni urges new Kyabazinga

on unity, development

President Yoweri Museveni has urged the new Kyabazinga of Busoga His Royal Highness William Gabula Nadiope the IV to unite his people and rally them for development saying so much time has been lost and yet there is too much work to be done.

The President was recently meeting a delegation of sixteen Kingdom officials from Basoga led by the newly elected King H.H. William Gabula at  State  House Entebbe.

He congratulated them upon the successful election of their king, and added that in the past, elections had a problem of quorum.

Kyabazinga Wako Muloki died on September 1, 2008 and ever since the kingdom has been embroiled in a bitter succession wrangle. Two princes have laid claim to the throne; Prince Edward Columbus Wambuzi the heir to Muloki and Prince William Gabula Nadiope IV, the heir to former Kyabazinga, Sir William Wilberforce Kadhumbula Nadiope III.

Gabula was elected recently by the 10 hereditary chiefs during a Royal Chiefs Council held at The Obwa Kyabazinga bwa Busoga headquarters at Bugembe in Jinja district.

''I congratulate you upon your victory. You had the quorum of  ten people who voted for you as required by the constitution'' he said.

The president commended the paramount chiefs upon the achievement and urged them to unite the people of Basoga to support the kingdom for development instead of splitting them.

The newly elected Kyabazinga His Highness William Gabula thanked his Excellency the President for securing peace in Basoga Region and Uganda at large. He pledged to be the unifying factor in Busoga and to reconcile his people for the good and future of Busoga.

The official coronation date has been scheduled for September 13th, 2014.

END.

{UAH} INSTALLATION OF IBANDA QADHI

NEWS RAELEASE

Sunday, 30th August 2014

"I am happy with religious tolerance among Ugandans" – President Museveni

President Yoweri Museveni has expressed happiness at the level of religious tolerance among Ugandans. He said that this is well manifested by the harmonious co-existence and cooperation among all religious denominations in the country noting that Uganda had now healed from the wounds of religious sectarianism that thrived during the time of past governments. He said that feat of sectarianism and other non-principled divisions contributed to the collapse of the State and the country.

The President made the remarks at yesterday at Rugarama Primary School in Ibanda Town Council where he was chief guest at the inauguration of Ibanda Muslim district council and the installation of the first Ibanda district Khadi, Sheik Yusufu Kalule.

President Museveni stressed that Uganda had in the past collapsed because of poor leaders who embraced religious sectarianism and mixed politics and religious work saying this greatly divided Ugandans, polarized society leading to the total breakdown of the country. He expressed happiness that religious institutions in Uganda had embraced the National Resistance Movement's teaching of unity and co-existence of all Ugandans.

"Thanks for embracing religious tolerance because sectarianism in un-Godly and unholy", he told the congregation that included Muslim, Anglican, Catholic, Orthodox and Pentecostal Churches' leaders.

Quoting the Biblical golden commandment of "love your neighbour as you love yourself", the President said that Biblical text is a summary of all the other commandments no matter what religious denomination one belongs to. He noted that if everybody fulfilled commandment the world would be in peace and harmony.

"Look at what is happening in the Arab world. All nations are in turmoil and collapsing and millions are in camps and others are refugees partly because of poor leadership and also partly due to intolerance and sectarianism of all forms", he added.

President Museveni, who also laid a foundation stone for Ibanda Muslim district administration block and contributed Shs.10 million towards its construction, urged all Ugandans to support and cherish unity of all citizens and work for the development of their country.

He singled out the country's remaining major challenge as war against household poverty and called on the people of Ibanda district to grow coffee, bananas, engage in dairy farming, poultry and piggery to boost their household income. He said that household income was good for individual families, religious institutions and the country.

The President urged the population to embrace the on-going National Identity card exercise saying it is an important undertaking because the card will enable one to access all national services including voting, travelling and banking facilities, among others.

During ceremony, the President donated a car to the pioneer Ibanda district Khadi. He, however, used the occasion to caution religious institutions not always to treat Presidential donations as mandatory. "When resources permit, I make some donations to the different religious leaders but don't turn them into debts. In the future when resources are available, we could plan and budget for religious institutions but not now", he said.

The Mufti of Uganda, His Eminence Sheikh Shaban Ramathan Mubajje, congratulated the newly installed district Khadi of Ibanda. He told the new Kadhi that leading God's people called for trustworthiness, a trait that he noted was scarce in humanity. He said that as a shepherd of God's people the new Kadhi will account for his action to God. He commended the President and NRM government for preaching religious tolerance and bringing about peace and harmony in the country which, he added, had enabled the country to develop.

{UAH} For Your Info: Sectarian Tirade: A Good Acholi is a...!?!

Someone, a staunch catholic, quietly emails me a curious micro-blog with this literally sectarian tirade.

Apparently, it is already being shared online:

"The people upon whom is Gods punishment are the Acholis... and some Lango.

The Acholi people are full of lies, slander, betrayal, conspiracy and trickery, the true killers of good persons and originally the most corrupt people in government from independance.

They have the most evil hearts of all tribes, and the worst attitude.

They are the furthest from mercy and the closest to harming others just for their pleasure.

Their way is enmity and stirring up hatred. They work with witchcraft, lies and trickery.

They do not see anything wrong in rejecting and disbelieving other people whom they do not like.

Acholi do not respect the ties of kinship or agreement with non-Acholi.

They do not respect the rights of those who disagree with them, nor do they show any compassion towards them.

They have no fairness towards those who work with them.

There is no safety or security for those who mix with them.

And they have no sincerity towards those who use their services.

The most evil of them is the one who is most intelligent.

And the cleverest one among them is the one who cheats the most.

The one who is good, which is very impossible to find, is not a true Acholi.

They are the most bad-tempered people, with the gloomiest houses and the dirtiest courtyards.

They have very bad manners.

Their greeting is a curse, and meeting them is bad news.

Their slogan is death and they are filled with hatred.

If you want to say that this is tribalist, go ahead!

But both God and I know that it is them the most deadly traitors." - Anonymous.

{UAH} When the son of a rat catcher hobnobbed with the mighty - Jenkins Kiwanuka

Folks:

This book could not have come at a more appropriate time!

Else in this forum, there is a heated debate that was originated by one Hussein Amin, who is struggling to find a sympathetic ear to his pleas that his father, Idi Amin, was not the monsters he's been portrayed to be.

Long-serving diplomat, Jenkins Kiwanuka, a self-educated man, has published his autobiography in which he says he was on the kangaroo jury that convicted Achbishop Luwumu and ministers, Oboth Ofumbi and Erinayo Oryema, and sentenced the three to death for conspiring to topple Idi Amin.

The review is brief, but catchy because we get a peek at Kiwanuka's lengthy ties to Amin that dates back to the 1950's when they were in the Kenyan army, during Mau Mau. After this tease, who wouldn't want to read Son of a Rat Catcher in its entirety?

{UAH} GERMANY TO SUPPLY ARMS TO KURDS

Germany to supply arms to Kurds fighting 'IS' militants

Chancellor Angela Merkel is to address parliament to explain a decision to supply German weapons to Kurdish forces fighting "IS" militants in Iraq. The decision marks a major policy shift and is not universally popular.

Merkel - von der Leyen - Steinmeier

Chancellor Merkel is to address a special session of Germany's Bundestag lower house of parliament on Monday, a day after the cabinet agreed to send 70 million EUROS ($92 million) worth of high-end weaponry to Kurdish forces fighting "Islamic State" (IS) militants.

The decision was announced in a joint press conference held by Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen and Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Berlin on Sunday.

"The situation in Iraq is extremely critical," von der Leyen said, adding that the IS, which has captured large swathes of northern Iraq in recent months, had been acting with "merciless brutality."

Steinmeier said the arms shipments would complement the humanitarian aid that Germany has already sent to help civilians displaced by the fighting.

"This isn't an easy decision for us, but it's the right decision in a situation that is difficult in every way," Steinmeier said. "The terror group Islamic State is a deadly threat for hundreds of thousands," he added.

Among the weapons to be delivered are 500 anti-tank missiles, 8,000 G36 assault rifles, 40 machine guns, as well as five heavily armored Dingo infantry vehicles.

Break with tradition

The decision to arm the Kurds in northern Iraq marks a break with Germany's long-standing policy of not sending arms to conflict zones.

A government statement released after Sunday's cabinet meeting argued that the situation in northern Iraq justified the unusual decision.

"The lives of millions of people, the stability of Iraq and the whole region and ... due to the high number of foreign fighters, our security in Germany and Europe are being threatened," the statement said.

"It is our humanitarian responsibility and in the interests of our security to help those suffering and to stop the IS" it added.

Non-binding Bundestag vote

Following Monday's Bundestag debate, lawmakers are to hold a non-binding vote on the weapons deliveries. They are expected to approve the measure easily , as Chancellor Merkel's conservatives along with their coalition partners, the Social Democrats, hold a large majority in the legislature.

However, it appears that the chancellor still has a lot of work to do to convince ordinary Germans that is is the right course of action. In a recent Infratest dimap opinion poll conducted for ARD public television, 60 percent of respondents said they opposed shipping weapons to Iraq while only 34 percent supported the idea.

Iceland Volcano Blasts Back to Life

LiveScience.comBy By Becky Oskin, Senior Writer | LiveScience.com – 3 hours ago

A new volcanic eruption in southeast Iceland on Sunday (Aug. 31) fountained lava nearly 200 feet (60 meters) into the air.
Lava is spewing from the same crack as a small eruption that occurred Friday (Aug. 29). The fissure slices through the 200-year-old Holuhraun lava field, between Bardarbunga volcano and Askja volcano.
The "calm" eruption is 50 times more powerful than Friday's outburst, according to the Iceland Met Office. Lava was streaming from the fissure at 15.9 million gallons per minute (1,000 cubic meters per second) at 7 a.m. local time (3 a.m. ET) on Sunday, three hours after the flare-up began. The basalt flow was almost 0.6 miles wide by 1.9 miles long (1 kilometer by 3 kilometers) by mid-morning local time. The crack feeding the lava flow has also expanded to the north and south, and is now almost 1 mile (1.5 km) long. [Gallery: Beautiful Images of Bardarbunga's Volcanic Eruption]
The eruption can be seen on live webcams here and here, though a storm severely lowered visibility Sunday.
Emergency officials briefly raised the aviation alert warning to red, but no commercial flights have been affected.
The volcanic activity kicked off Aug. 16, when thousands of small earthquakes underneath the Bardarbunga volcano signaled fresh magma (molten rock) was burrowing underground. After a few days, the tremors showed the magma push off toward the northeast, forming a long channel called a dike. This narrow magma intrusion is now more than 28 miles (45 km) long.
On Aug. 29, the dike punched through to the surface in the Holuhraun lava field, an older lava flow that erupted in 1797. Lava briefly erupted just after midnight local time (8 p.m. ET) for three to four hours. A small amount of molten rock streamed from an old fissure some 2,000 feet (600 m) long, jetting clouds of steam. The Holuhraun lava field sits at the toe of Dyngjujokull glacier, between Bardarbunga volcano and Askja volcano. Askja volcano is located 30 miles (50 km) northeast of Bardarbunga. Fissures from earlier eruptions fractured the remote and rugged terrain. As the dike tunneled underground and neared the surface there, it shifted the ground, opening new cracks and widening older fractures, scientists with the University of Iceland reported.
New cracks in the glacier covering Bardarbunga volcano also hint at unrest beneath the ice.
Bardarbunga volcano is buried under an ice cap 1,310 to 1,970 feet (400 to 600 m) thick. Three circular crevasses, described as ice cauldrons, were discovered in the ice cap during a reconnaissance flight Aug. 27, the Met Office said. Each pit is about 32 to 50 feet (10 to 15 m) deep. The pits indicate either an eruption or geothermal heating that is melting ice deep below the glacier's surface, according to the Met Office.
Scientists can only detect a subglacial eruption at Bardarbunga by watching for melting and "listening" for the seismic signals of lava melting ice.

While we shut down for three days in respect of the Val Ojo’s passing, a very strange development happened in Uganda and DRC. The Congolese government posted a General by the name of Lucien Bahuma to command the Congolese army in Eastern DRC war against the Allied Democratic Forces rebel group. He has been working with Uganda government and The UN to get peace in the region. Let us remember that The UN listed the Allied Democratic Movement as a terrorist organization. That is a back ground. Fast forward to last week, there was a security meeting set up in Kasese between Uganda government, The UN representatives in the area and DRC government was represented by General Lucien Bahuma. Be informed that while in Kasese, General Lucien Bahuna fell sick and was transported to Kampala for treatment, where he was flown out of Kampala on Thursday/Friday and admitted into a South African hospital. AP is now posting that he has died in South Africa. If General Lucien Bahuna has died as many reports are starting to flock in right now, he will be the second high officer to die in that post, he replaced a top colonel that died in a grenade explosion.

General Lucien Bahuna is being reported to have passed away at age 57.

{UAH} Standard Digital News - Kenya : Is this beginning of the end for South Africa's Zuma?

Standard Digital News - Kenya : Is this beginning of the end for South Africa's Zuma?

Cape Town, South Africa: A series of setbacks in beleaguered South African President Jacob Zuma's battle againstcorruption allegations has sparked fresh speculation that he could be forced out of office.

Controversy over millions of dollars of taxpayers' money spent on his rural home and the dropping of graft charges against him, returned to haunt Zuma with renewed force over the past week.

On Thursday he lost a five-year court battle to keep secret the so-called "spy tapes" that got him off the hook on more than 700 charges of fraud and corruption in 2009, shortly before he became president.

The Supreme Court of Appeal ordered that the tapes, which allegedly showed political interference in the prosecution process, be released to the opposition Democratic Alliance (DA) within five days.

This could possibly lead to the charges against him being reinstated.

On the same day, Public Protector Thuli Madonsela, a government-appointed watchdog, told a news conference she would press ahead with demands that Zuma refund some of the $24 million spent on "security upgrades" at his private home.

That amount of money would buy several mansions in the best suburbs in Johannesburg or on the beachfront in Cape Town, and Madonsela's report on the issue sparked widespread outrage.

'Pay back the money'

This took its most visible form last week when Zuma hedged his answers on the scandal in parliament, leading to chaotic scenes as a group of radical lawmakers jumped to their feet and yelled repeatedly: "Pay back the money!"

That unprecedented outburst was described by veteran commentator Allister Sparks as "a catalytic event that is going to have a transformative impact on our national politics.

"It could well mark the beginning of the end of Zuma's presidency," Sparks wrote in his syndicated column.

He was not alone in this assessment.

"Are we building up to the removal of President Jacob Zuma?" asked an editorial in the South African daily The Times on Friday.

The paper referred to the ousting by the ruling African National Congress of former president Thabo Mbeki from its leadership in 2007, which paved the way for Zuma to take over the presidency.

Business Day newspaper said the ruling on the tapes was an opportunity for the ANC to "consider having a discussion with Zuma over an exit strategy -- he is too much of a liability".

While all this was going on, Zuma was on a mysterious week-long trip to Russia, where his only major engagement was a meeting with President Vladimir Putin.

Although the trip was billed as a bid to promote trade, none of the relevant ministers travelled with him, and he was said to be having "rest periods".

Zuma's health has also been under scrutiny. In June he was hospitalised for two days for fatigue and tests before taking a week off.

But Zuma has weathered storms before, earning the sobriquet "Teflon president" -- nothing sticks -- for having remained in office despite all the allegations against him.

And there could still be long legal battles ahead, with analysts cautioning that the appeal court's decision on the "spy tapes" would not necessarily lead to the reinstatement of the corruption charges against him.

But if he is seen as a liability by his own party, which was retained power with a reduced majority in May's election, he could be ousted -- as Zuma ousted Mbeki -- through an internal leadership election.

{UAH} HOW WAS IDDI AMIN FINALLY DISLODGED?

HOW WAS IDDI AMIN FINALLY DISLODGED?

As Tanzania mobilised its forces for a counter attack, Uganda exiles in Tanzania also assembled a force mainly composed of the pro-Obote faction that was named Kikosi Maluum (Task Force). It was under the command of the likes of Tito Okello, David Oyite Ojok, Maruru, Bazilio Okello, Major Rurangaranga, Col. William Omaria, Sam Mugwisa, Paulo Mwanga and others. To steal the show, Museveni also gathered a section of his FRONASA reminants and placed them under the Command of Eriya Mwine aka Sheif Ali. Before departing for the frontline, exiled President Obote addressed and blessed Kikosi Malum. Since Museveni was not a military Commander, he was appointed the overall Political Commissar of the entire Uganda contigent.

Immediately after crossing the border and entering Uganda, Museveni embarked on recruitment to swell his FRONASA. His first target area was the Rwandese Tutsi refugee camps of Nakivale, Orukinga and Nshungyerezi in Mbarara district. The main fighting group composed of both Tanzania army and Kikosi Maluum took the Masaka (central) Axis where actual fighting took place. The Uganda army with Libya's backing put up spirited resistance in areas of Masaka and Lukaya. Museveni knew that Kikosi Maluum was a pro-Obote force and he therefore took the Mbarara (western) axis in order to rise his own army that would in future counter balance Kikosi Maluum. As the fighting was ragging on on the Masaka axis, Museveni was busy carrying out reprisal attacks on Muslims in Masaka and Mbarara, gruesome massacre of Moslems in Itendero, ransacling of Kamukuzi palace and destruction of Kakoba Coffee factory. No such reprisal attacks were recorded in areas controlled by Kikosi Maluum in central, eastern and Northern region. The Ombarch massacre in West Nile took place in an area that was under the control of Museveni even if it was carried out by members of Kikosi Maluum.

Inside Uganda, the Uganda Army conducted the war proffesionally. It adhered to the Geneva convention on armed conflict. It did not attack civilian targets but instead its military police evacuated civilians to safety. Even when withdrawing, the loosing Uganda Army never committed attrocities to the hostile civilians who were jubilating for the advancing victorious forces. The question here is why would the much publcised 'brutal' Uganda army with its 'muderer' commander in Chief, Iddi Amin behave humanely at such a critical moment! The answer is that much of the allegations are for mere propaganda purposes. Much of the regime's human rights violations were committed by the intelligence services. The Uganda army under Iddi Amin remained proffessional but currently under Museveni the military intelligence is the country's lead intelligence agency that guides the regimes politics.

Museveni's efforts to rise a personal army from western Uganda succeeded to some extent. His recruintment theme was 'to break the northern Uganda's dominance of the security services'. He was tactiful in controlling the elistment of recruits by delibarately eliminating the numbers of Ankole Bairus in preference for ethinic Himas and Rwandese Tutsi refugees. That is why John Kazoora was openly turned back by Museveni at Kamukuzi. This how Himas and Tutsis came to dominate leadership in Museveni's current army which he has often defended by arguing that "its because of the western region's historical association with the liberation struggle."

On 11th April 1979 Kampala fell and David Oyite Ojok of Kikosi Maluum made the announcement on Radio Uganda. Iddi Amin fled to Libya. For Museveni, this marked the end of round one of his journey to the Presidency.

{UAH} WHAT SPARKED OFF THE INVASION OF AMIN IN 1978?

WHAT SPARKED OFF THE INVASION OF AMIN IN 1978?

It is a fact that by 1978 there was no visible armed opposition threat to the Iddi Amin government. However, relations between Iddi Amin and Tanzania's Julius Nyerere remained irrepairably strained. Tanzania remained the base for most of the anti-Amin groups in exile though they were innactive by 1978. Liberation movements had been outlawed in Tanzania in 1977. The East African Community had broken up in 1977. Inside Uganda, the supperb and proffessional intelligence services had made it impossible for any kind of resistance to be organised on Uganda soil. There had been incidents of assasination attempts on Iddi Amin. In one of the incidents, the bullet missed Iddi Amin but hit his DRIVER. In a rare show of extra-ordinary courage, President Iddi Amin reacted by jumping into the driver's seat and driving the injured driver to Mulago national hospital. It is believed that one of the assasination attempts was masterminded by Matayo Kyaligonza. He was later to become one of Museveni's top bush war commanders. To understand this, one needs to examine the history of Museveni's relationship with Kyaligonza. Also, within the Uganda Army, developed some cracks that that threatened rebellious sentiments. They were too minor to cause an impact on a proffessional and highly motivated national army that Iddi Amin had helped to build.

In Tanzania, Museveni maintained clandestine activities against the Iddi Amin government. He had rear bases in the Tanzania's north western region of Kagera bordering with Uganda. There he enjoyed the patronage of local migrant Rwandese Tutsis and Hima pastrolists. It is from here that in 1978 he skillfuly succeded in provoking an incident that led to crossborder clashes. On October 30th 1978, Amin ordered a full scale invasion of Tanzania to reclaim Tanzania's Kagera region. In his book, Sowing the Mustard Seed on page 93, Museveni says "Never since the Amin Coup of 1971 had I felt so bouyant as I did on the day following the invasion. I knew Amin was finished. I remember walking along .......going to consult with Sokoine (Prime Minister) with a complete feeling of complete satisfaction about future course of events." Museveni had provoked antagonism in the hope that Amin would attack and Tanzania would retaliate with a counter attack. Museveni was to use a similar method in fighting a guerilla war agains the Obote government years later. Museveni's political success is attributed to this incident. In recognition, he has built a multi million modern primary school in the area and named it Shule La Msingi Museveni (Museveni Primary School). He also enjoys a special personal attachement to to people of that region driven by ethinic considerations. For the same reasons, the people of Luwero Triangle in Uganda who helped Museveni during the bush war that brought him to power are yet to get tangible recognition 27 years down the road. Museveni gave priority to Kagera region inorder to secure the southern border. Now that the current political situation dictates that he SECURES Luwero triangle, he has hastly moved in to address their plight.

The Uganda army invaded, overun and occupied the Kagera salient by declaring it to be part of Uganda. It caused alot of havoc and destruction of life and property. On Nov. 2nd 1978, Tanzania announced a counter attack to repel the invading Uganda army.

{UAH} WHY AND HOW DID MUSEVENI UNDERMINE OTHER ANTI-AMIN GROUPS?

WHY AND HOW DID MUSEVENI UNDERMINE OTHER ANTI-AMIN GROUPS?

Both the foiled coup attempt and the defeated open crossborder invasion of 1972 coupled by gruesome events that followed thereafter, made Iddi Amin to repressively strengthen his grip on power. The purge of the suspected rebelious Acholi and Langi soldiers led to desertions that helped to swell the rank and file of the main anti-Amin but pro-Obote group of fighters in Tanzania. Museveni who ran a parallel briefcase group had cause to wory. Most of his own recruits had either been disbanded, deserted or joined other groups. The very few who had remained around him like Sheif Ali, Ivan, Koreta, Salim Saleh, Fred Rwigyema and a few others were not worthy being called a force but a squad in military terms. This squad had undergone some military training in southern Tanzania region alongside Mozambique's independence freedom fighters. Within FRONASA, Museveni was faced with allegations of masterminding the mysterious deaths of some founding membess among others Martin Mwesiga and Raiti Omongin. It is most likely that he eliminated his coleagues in order to secure his future leadership position. Martin Mwesiga was a lawyer and a member of the Ankole royal family which Museveni dissents so much. This is what made another Ankole royal family member, Sam Magala to abandon him and defiantly ran to Obote in Daressalaam for help with education. The likes of Saleh, Koreta, Rwigyema, Sheif Ali who stuck to Museveni missed out on education. However, many years later Sam Magara was made to pay by blood for this defiance.
During the same period, the top political leadership of FRONASA disintergrated due to Museveni's intrigue.

Museveni joined several other anti-Amin groups. But generally, Museveni's intrigues made other groups to suspect that he was an Iddi Amin agent. On several occasions he would be detained by Tanzania's security officials but would be released at the intervention of President Nyerere. Museveni enjoyed cordial relatinship with Nyerere based on strong marxist leanings.

The truith is that Museveni was not an agent of the Iddi Amin government. Driven by Presidential ambitions, he did not wish to see other groups making success thus undermined their efforts. One of the methods he used was to ensure that he kept informed of all their activities. When he couldnt frustrate such efforts through misinformation, then he would indirectly leak such information to the Iddi Amin security apparatus. An anonymous tel call or an anonymous written report by post would serve the purpose. The best example is the discovery of arms in the Anglican Archi-Bishop's custody and his subsequent murder in 1977. The plain truith is that the consignment of arms had been smuggled into the country by the pro-Obote group using the Anglican Church. 'Someone' had alerted Amin's intelligence network and the consignment was intercepted leading to the Archi-Bishop's subsequent murder.

As of 1977, liberation movements had bee outlawed in Tanzania. Museveni later took up a teaching post in the northern town of Moshi but he maintained clandestine hit squads inside Uganda coordinated by the Nairobi based team composed of Otafire, Amama Mbabazi and a few others. The fighters belonging to the main group of Milton Obote languished in Kigwa refugee settlement camp in Tabora. In Uganda the economic situation was appaling. The scale of murders, kidnapping and disappearances had subsided abit. Above all, by 1978 there was visible formidable group posing a threat to Iddi Amin regime.

{UAH} HOW DID MUSEVENI CONTRIBUTE TO IDDI AMIN'S BRUTALITY

HOW DID MUSEVENI CONTRIBUTE TO IDDI AMIN'S BRUTALITY

After his Sept. 1972 failed hasty invasion, Museveni desparately intensified his clandestine hit squads inside Amin's Uganda. In Jan. 1973, Amin's security services captured some members of such hit squads who had been infiltrated into the country. Their network was bursted the captives sumarily tried by a military tribunal headed Col. Ozoo and found guility and sentenced to death on 23rd Jan. 1973. The evidence against them was overwhelming following the defection of some two recruits from a newly set up camp in the Bunya forest in Busoga region. The following day on 24th Jan. 1973, they were publicly executed by firing squad in their respective home areas. Among them was Capt Masaaba, Joseph Bitwari, James Karambi, and Pheres Kasoro. On 30th Jan. 1973 a one Abwooli Malibo from Tooro was arrested in Kampala in posession of a pistol and he confessed that he had been sent to kidnap and assasinate key targets in the Amin goverment. Also, from the northern region Amos Obwona and John Labeja were found in posession of five assault rifles and were given the same treatment. These ones may have belonged to the Oyite Ojok clandestine group.

Back in Tanzania, it had by then become clearer that Museveni intended to run parallel efforts to ouster Iddi Amin. The main group was that of former President Milton Obote which comprised of senior army officers. Museveni intensified clandestine acts of sabotage inside Uganda and against exile groups. This is confirmed by Museveni's self confession of deliberate destabilisation thus "it was following these encounters that ......and some of the most prominent members of Amin's government fled into exile." These were top government officials like Prof Dan Nabudere, Prof Banage, Prof Rugumayo, Prince Elizabeth Bagaaya etc.

Inside Uganda, the Amin regime was thrown into confusion and Iddi Amin now behaved likd a wounded buffalo. Suspicion and mistrust took centre stage as is the situation in Museveni's Uganda now. With some key figures in his cabinet fleeing into exile, Iddi Amin filled cabinet positions with military officers and top positions in the army and intelligence services were dominated by his ethinic west Nilers of Sudanic origin. However, some performed very well i.e Brig. Barnabas Killi the Minister of Education oversaw a flourishing education standard in the country that is yet to be witnessed again. In support of the Palestenian cause, Iddi Amin expelled the Israelis and ceased relations and later he expelled the Asians.

Arrests, torture, murders, kidnapping, forced disapperances and detention without trial became the order of the day. Some of these murders, kidnappings and disappearances of prominent personalities have never been satisfactorily explained. The fact is that both the Iddi Amin regime and the groups fighting him contributed. A Nairobi based Museveni close confidant, Wyclife Kazoora sent a group from Nairobi armed with a pistol and good amount of cash with instructions to assasinate prominent personalities but were intercepted by Amin's security agents. Another FRONASA operative Chris Nyombi was intercepted at Malaba border post with heeps of anti-Amin propaganda pamphlets enroute from Nairobi. Museveni's Nairobi station managers were Amama Mbabazi, Otafiire and Wyclife Kazoora. Such pamphlets would either be posted to specific addresses or slitted into offices of prominent people with the sole aim of putting the targets into Iddi Amin's dirrect line of fire. A one Peter Owili of Obote's group posed as a member of Amin's State Research Bureau and kidnapped the Central Bank Governor Joseph Mubiru. In Sept 1972 both Michael Kabali Kagwa and Ben Kiwanuka the President of Uganda Industrial Court and the Chief Justice respectively disappeared without trace. Around the same time, such incidents led to leading personalities to flee Uganda.

It is because of the contribution of the Anti-Amin groups (Museveni in particular) in these murders, that no single member of Iddi Amini's intelligence services has ever been made to answer.

{UAH} Press Communiqué: Amnesty International...

Dear Colleagues.

I sent the email below to Amnesty International asking critical questions about information that they have turned into possibly the most distorted history of any country.

We as a nation haven't been afforded any answers to these questions yet.

So the Amnesty International silence in regards to my questions isn't only deafening, it is hypocrite.

It would be appropriate that the Ugandan media in particular, take on this challenge. And if successful, publish impartially the simple answers to the Ugandan people for the sake of setting the record straight.

My letter was as follows:

"Sir,

I am interested in the alledged atrocities committed in Uganda.

Particularly;
- The Idi Amin regime (1971-79)
- The post-Amin era from 1979-1986.

From the preliminary information I have, Amnesty International is the organization that conducted research on Uganda to document atrocities.

I would therefore be grateful if you could make available a response to the following:

- Number of deaths during the Amin regime.
- Who counted?
- When?
- How? (Methodoly)
- Accuracy?
- What is the evidence of the deaths?
- Did you make requests for information or were you instead contacted with data? (this is important to weigh the impartiality of the information)
- Who inside Uganda did Amnesty International contact to obtain the information?
- Finally, what methods were used to determine the accuracy of the information that was published?

I would be glad to talk to a knowledgable person within the organization to discuss the above.

Kind regards,"

Hussein Juruga Lumumba Amin.

SV: SV: {UAH} Studies on human behavior

Ndugu OKURUT,
FIRST, I think Mr. Kashambuzi and cahoots are too elitists, who are much quite self-consumed in drumming their only positions as most importance for the running of Uganda politics as engineered by their NRA/M7ism during his days at the formation of the FRONASA in the early, 1970s.
SECOND, take for example lately, BESIGYE stated clearly that, there exists no political parties in Uganda, without his active participation or leadership if I interpret him clearly. This means, (he) BESIGYE is trying to tell us Ugandans that as soon as M7 goes in the evening of his political game, it is him BESIGYE to take the mantle. So it is him (BESIGYE) who has the VISION for Uganda - absurd as it is!
LASTLY, you see, the squabbles between Kashambuzi, Sejusa and M7 Jr, Muhozi etal excludes the rest of us Ugandan political stake-holders. The question is, why are they trying to behave like this? My answer is, they all take their political dices from their hero M7. This is my interpretation of the events!
Mark you, though MUNTU is leading FDC - BESIGYE had not accepted or endorsed MUNTU as the true leadership as per BESIGYE's latest statement! I quote; "He also said that there were no (political) parties in Uganda, and people should never even think about it."  End quote - Source Observer 29th - 08 - 2014.

Kashambuzi,
FIRST, thousands apologies, but do not forget that you want to be a politician. Please bear with me politics is quite a difficult science because it will enclose even the CRIMINALS, INNOCENT folks, in short the whole sectors of society!
SECOND, do also respond to the folks, you feel are below your standards, but do not forget you are aspiring to lead us Ugandans as the whole sectors but not only the high elites!
THIRD, I think, as both you and me know how complex the issues of administering Uganda is concern, whereby the PhD holders had failed to steer Uganda successfully under the NRA/M7 regime. I hope your very good studies on human behaviours may fell short of Ugandan's needs.
LASTLY, I am just a simple political observer but not some sort of elites a PhD holders who specialises on complex issues those pretend to be politicians because of their elitism creeds!

Ndugu Ocaya pOcure,

If comrade Eric has documented evidence of his studies, please kindly ask for the link so  that we read and interpret for ourselves. However if what he says is true, then it is sad as it seems none is immune to the problem.

For example, our colleague Eric has recently been warning forum members of new arrivals who are destined to destroy the unified plan and has not spared kind words against Sejusa.  Isn't that a calculated move aimed at "Pulling Him Down?" It looks none is immune to this "studied human behaviour" by Eric.

For me, I do not deny pulling down people, at least once if what I did qualifies to be "pulling him down". It was to do with competing with another man over a beauty.

There was a friend and namesake of mine  who used to boast that he was the only one with the most beautiful girl-friend and never allowed us to see her photo because according to him, we were too ugly to see it. We swallowed the abuse and prayed that the Almighty God one day answers our prayers. We wanted to know who the girl was, where she came from and which high school she attended.

It is good to pray always for God answers prayers, for me it happened one Easter Day. I chanced to meet the girl and deploying all the knowledge and literature language I could remember, I steered the discussion so well that the girl asked if I knew Peter a student in the same school. I told her that there were many Peters perhaps she could describe him (but I knew the guy she implied). She described him and even showed me his photo. Pretending further I asked if that was her brother and before waiting for her answer I described how terrible the boy was, always running to the dining hall especially when it was meat served and that the guy always did punishments (washing plates, serving food etc) because of dining hall related offences. I watched the girl's reaction as I mentioned one offence after the other. She must have believed me because she saw my "Prefect's Identity Card" issued to student leaders in our school, then, and I was handsome I was told, very cute in black and white photo those days. By the end of the discussion, I knew that my namesake's empire had been crumbled.

In our school then, older boys had mentees from lower classes. We used to call them our sons and they called us their dads. One common practice was for our communities to share stories and letters from our girl-friends. Each small boy was assigned a mother (one girl-friend) from a school and when such a girl wrote to her boy friend(elder) it was the small's responsibility to read for the father as the rest of the elders (senior boys) and small boys listened attentively. The other small boys armed themselves with pens and paper to jot down mistakes from their step mother etc. After reading the letter, another small boy would read from his mother (another girl-friend) and so forth. The small boy would start like thins," Daddy, this is what mammy has written: Dear my husband and future father of our bright children....." and we would laugh. The boy had also to edit his mammy's letters and point out the mistakes otherwise he would be punished and abused ".. like your mother..."

So, after one week, my namesake received a letter (actually I was the one honoured to mail it for her) from his girl-friend. Immediately my friend searched through many letters and distributed them to his "sons" for us to hear. So the "son" of the lady in question tore open the envelope and hesitated to read aloud the contents. We waited and the "father" became impatient so he roared out, "Read it now or you miss evening tea..." so the small boy started; Daddy, Mammy has written, "Dear Peter, I did not know that you are such a boy and I regret....." Quickly the guy knew something was wrong and grabbed the letter from his "son" and that marked the end of that day's assembly. We burst into laughter and I befriended the small boy to tell me more and to offer him protection. True, Peter disowned the boy (Sam) and I took over responsibility as culture demands that we take care of "orphans and widows."
The namesake was a big government officer in Uganda and the son (Sam) was a bank manager those days, I do not know what they are now.

After some time, the truth surfaced and I had no regrets, I told the guy to stop boasting as though he owned the entire world. Initially, we became distant in our relations but after some good time, we laughed over the matter and he would warn other friends not to boast around especially if I were around, that I was "dangerous."
If that is considered  "pulling him down" as Eric discusses, then I did it and now I regret, I won't do it to anyone again but those days, it was very good and fun.  It must have caused much anguish and it is no fun to see another man "suffer." I will apologize if I meet the guy for it is not fancy "pulling down" others

Peter Simon.

Kashambuzi,
I think studying human behaviour and practicing what one had learnt are two different things. Let us not forget that, there exists many people who had studied several ideal educative subjects which could have made our Uganda the best country in the world.
But, just look how these PhD holders inside the NRA/M7 regime who could not perform anything quite better for the well-beings of the whole Ugandans. The question is, how will your intellectual studying of human behaviour in Uganda be interpreted into practice, I think what may pushed folks away from you.

I have studied human behavior for a long time in Uganda and outside. More often than not people don't like successful individuals and don't like failed ones either. When you are successful those who don't like it will reason that you were either favored by God or you bribed your way to success and you should therefore be pulled down. When you are poor and vulnerable you are blamed for being lazy and should be left alone.
I remember a Zambian individual who worked in Kaunda government and left early to start a farm in southern Zambia near a highway. When this African farmer did very well he was accused that he had stolen government money to be able to start such a successful farm. How else could an African do so well is such a short time, so the argument went?  He had to hide his farm from public view by planting trees between the road and the farm. That is why in Africa PHD stands for "Pull Him Down".
This behavior leads to constant conflicts and destruction of lives and properties especially in countries where there is no rule of law. In the end everyone lives in an atmosphere of insecurity and suspicion of one another.
