{UAH} Physical & Transport Planning 2015-16

Individuals who wish to join a one year multi- disciplinary masters program 2015 below they can write to me and copy the letters to the mails below. These courses can be combined with practical physical planning in towns and urban areas in key areas where it is needed most plus initiating development programs.

SIUP and Milano University are organizing the multidisciplinary Physical Planning Masters program which will be running for a one full academic year. The course includes units like; master, spatial and detail plan design, landscape design, architecture, cartography, urban project development, financing and modeling etc.

The program will be taught by 10 University professors. Since we have to source for the professors from Europe it is better to join the course as a group to lower the cost to ~3200 Euros. There is also a possibility of doing part of the course in Milano.

Classes are limited to 25 - 30 students only. and we can two sessions that 50 to 60 students

Districts that might wish to be considered for this course, will have to request for the course in writing to SIUP as a group, with details of number of prospective students. You can copy the request to Prof. Pedro Ortiz pedro.b.ortiz@hotmail.com

Those interested in Transport Planning, Engineering and Economics can make the same request. Course can only be mounted with the above numbers.

Supersonic jets can fly from New York to L.A. in 2.5 hours (or less)

NEW YORK (CNNMoney)

The super rich may soon be going supersonic.

Over a decade after the Concorde made its last transatlantic flight, a number of companies are working on the next generation of supersonic passenger aircraft capable of speeds at least twice as fast as current commercial planes.

These planes will likely first appear in the private and business jet market.

It's the "corporate jets and the very rich who would value the speed and pay a high price," said Andrew Goldberg, CEO of Metropolis Group, an investment firm with expertise in the aerospace sector.

At least two companies are currently working on such planes.

Reno, Nevada, based Aerion is developing a $110 million, 12-passenger business jet capable of hitting Mach 1.6 -- or over 1,200 miles per hour. That's roughly twice as fast as the $65 million Gulfstream G650, and would cut the travel time between New York and London from seven hours to just over four.

"There's a business case and a demand for this," said Jeff Miller, Aerion's head of marketing and communication. "People want to get places faster."

aerion supersonicA rendering of Aerion's AS2 supersonic business jet.

The company has deposits from dozens of customers and recently signed an agreement for technical assistance with Airbus -- the company that, in an earlier incarnation, built the Concorde. They hope to deliver the first plane in 2022.

Boston-based Spike Aerospace is working on a similar plane that would also carry business passengers at a speed of Mach 1.6. The company boasts on its website that flying on the plane "will make any other jet feel like flying on a prop plane."

These planes can succeed where the 1960s-era Concorde failed, said Miller, thanks to improvements in aerodynamics, engines and composite materials that will save fuel, and ultimately, money. They will also travel a bit slower than the Concorde to cut costs.

But so far, they can only plan routes that travel mostly over water.

Related: Floating train could whisk you from D.C. to N.Y. in an hour

The main obstacle to superfast air travel is the sonic boom -- the noise a plane makes when it goes supersonic. This boom is as loud as a thunder clap, and follows the plane the entire time it's exceeding the speed of sound. For this reason, supersonic flight has long been banned over most of the United States and many other countries.

Looking further afield, both Lockheed Martin (LMT) and Boeing (BA) are working with NASA to lower the sonic boom. NASA believes it's making good progress (largely through aircraft design), and by sometime after 2022, it may be acceptable to exceed the speed of sound over land. That would put many more routes in play, and opens the door to potential commercial supersonic service.

Lockheed has a plane on the drawing board -- the N+2 -- that also cruises at Mach 1.6 but is intended for the commercial airlines. It would cut the travel time from New York to Los Angeles from five hours to 2.5.

These jets can cut your flight time in half

This type of aircraft would still probably cater to the rich -- offering first class service (and prices) on just a handful of select routes.

But eventually supersonic may reach the masses.

Metropolis' Goldberg thinks that in the next 20 to 25 years, technology could progress to the point where high capacity, high-flying planes could travel at Mach 2 or more (over 1,500 mph) -- flying from New York to Beijing in 3.5 hours for not much more than the cost of a regular flight.

The technology to go that fast certainly exists. Lockheed recently tested an unmanned aircraft -- the HTV-2 -- that hit Mach 20, or over 13,000 miles per hour. At that speed, the flight time between New York and Los Angeles would be 12 minutes.

The speed record for a human is held by the astronauts aboard Apollo 10, who, unencumbered by the drag of the atmosphere, hit 24,791 miles per hour on the return trip from the moon.

Kinda makes 1,200 miles per hour seem like a prop plane.

{UAH} Obama’s New Rules on Immigration Could Benefit Baganda Immigrants

On November 20, 2014, President Barack Obama of the United States announced that he would sign an Executive Order reforming the way his administration enforces immigration law. The Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) will no longer arrest and deport immigrants present in the country illegally, if they have resided continuously in the U.S. for five years and are parents of children who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

Obama's Executive Order is not an amnesty. It does not give the applicant a green card or permanent residence, or a path to citizenship. It is only "deferred action," meaning that it stops ICE from arresting and deporting the beneficiaries over the next two years.

After the 2016 elections, the next president will not be bound by Obama's Executive Order. If that president does not extend these benefits, ICE will have the power to arrest and deport the beneficiaries of Obama's action.

All presidents since Ronald W. Reagan have issued executive orders for immigration law enforcement that were limited in scope. Although it is hard to predict what will happen in the future, none of those past executive orders were reversed.

It is not yet clear how those immigrants with deportation orders that are final but are in the appeal process will be treated under this Executive Order. However, those who are not qualified but apply anyway risk prosecution and being referred to ICE for deportation proceedings.

This Executive Order is expected to benefit approximately 4.4 million undocumented immigrants. Those in the know project that Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS) will probably be ready to take applications sometime in spring 2015. Although Republicans in Congress are opposed to this Executive Order, there is little they can do to stop it. For instance, they cannot withhold funding, because CIS relies on application fees to fund its operations.

At this time, no information is available yet on fees and related details.

FG Sends 49 Nigerian Professionals To Kampala University In Uganda

Article | November 30, 2014 - 3:07pm

By JOY EKEKE

The Federal Government has sent 49 Nigerian volunteers to lecture at the Kampala University in Uganda under the Technical Aid Corps (TAC), three months after 48 Nigerian professionals went for the same mission.
Experienced Nigerian professionals and experts are recruited to serve under the TAC Scheme as “Volunteers” for a period of two years.
Director-General of the corps, Dr Pius Osunyikanmi, told journalists after the departure of the last batch to Uganda, that the Federal Government has made adequate provision to cater for the welfare of the volunteers.
The scheme was established with the sole purpose of assisting states in Africa and the Caribbean in their social-economic development effort through the participation of Nigerian experts in various fields of human endeavour.

The Nigerian government is responsible for the payment of onshore and offshore allowances to the Volunteers, payment of resettlement allowance and provision of return passages to Volunteers.

{UAH} Support Bwanika for Nakaseke 2016

Forumists

Nakaseke need a lot of support and funders to allow the growth of the Social Democratic Agenda Movement 2016 -2021.

If wo/men are equal by the law then wo/men in Nakaseke must also be equal by worldly yearning and earthly goods to those men and women at the highest table of free goods and services.

Let us rise up and have a Social Democratic Agenda in Bulemezi and beyond.

The idea is very simple - doing what no political person has done before. Indeed this is not their intention other for the power and glory lies in a master and slave relationship. And that is what is wrong with our entire political system -

Socialised selfishness is the basis of our ideals.

Nakaseke wants to process her own goods; the coffee, the seeds, the milk, the meat, the maize, the sweat potatoes, the timber - so that like their fellow Ugandan at a high table of free goods and services, Nakaseke farmer too can share into their toil stolen away from him and her.

Who caters for the insurance of Nakaseke farmer's children and what makes these children fundamentally different from the children of politicians, minister and their associates who access European and America schools with such ease albeit on the sweat and labour of Nakaseke farmer?

Why is high class medicare only for ministers and politicians when the funds which oils their hands comes from the labour of Nakaseke farmer?

Why is Pension only for just a small portion of the population - who caters for the lone elderly farmer and Nakaseke village entrepreneurs on whose back the political class celebrate their power and glory?

Nakaseke farmers want to boost his and her savings, interest free funding support to spur Nakaseke local production and country investments.

Social selfishness is a goal to strive for in Nakaseke.

Bwanika is coming to your doorsteps.

In the last half of the 80's and the whole of the 90's I was embedded in politics not in Uganda but in Europe. This was a vital experience to me. Effective May 2008, I have been almost all the time in Uganda. I embarked on traveling around Uganda to see the miracle development - it all came to nothing.

I have seen misery in Kigezi hundreds of young men trying their lack with Boda Boda bicycling in Kabale), I once sat at a bus park in Mbarara - I could see how waragi was consuming young men, I have been in Koboko and seen young people clouding along the road in evening hours due to lack of electricity and nothing to do at home which a basically huts. I have seen how Nakaseke wakes up at 11.00 a.m. and do nothing. I have met esteemed professors earning 200'000 shs (77 $ US) as a  pension!  Even in his very old age, Prof. Livingstone Walusimbi has to teach for 300'000 UGx to make a living!

Uganda needs a socioeconomic policy not MP fat wages. Have you ever heard an economist coming up with a daily need matrix for a decent living in Uganda - I have it! See below. It is about 1'200'000 UGx basic. Now if every Uganda were getting that much  with our Social Democracy program to use Olof Palmes words - the state of Uganda will be earning five (5) times more. Do the mathematics and see what I mean.

Are you asking me what we can do about it? Social Democracy.

It is not difficult to understand what I mean. Social housing, pension for all, education for all, medicare for all, small government, effective management and public administration,  promote industry, technology and innovation under a guided framework not unguided free market enterprise since such market has never existed anywhere!

I read a lot of economics and I have experienced and practiced social democracy - I therefore know exactly what can be done that has not been done in Uganda. We do not need Oil and Gas but our brains and people. Surprise? Read on.

Let me tell you something, in Uganda, I have never heard any political leader stating his ideological disposition thus a road map as to how that politician will run the country. How on earth, are you going to change the population without giving them your view of how their world should be like as compared to their own perspective?! Our program is simple - we not modernise agriculture - that is done by the market (disposable income).

In November 2004, a committee of my party in Sweden wanted me to contest for a parliamentary seat which for the past ten years has been occupied by a lady, I partly taught in our evening party school - she was a hospital cleaner if i can remember very well!

M7 can't be a problem with the above articulation of issues. Give me a pedestal to stand on and I will hold the world.

Before you can think of turning Nakaseke into a model district, we have to turn Uganda into a model democratic functioning state. But as long as Museveni is still dominating the politics of Uganda, you may kiss that "Nakaseke model district dream" goodbye, for it will never happen.

And if the 2016 elections go ahead, without a hitch, we want a new MP. What MP?? Well, a man or woman who will put the interest of the people well above personal interests.

A Must DO list:
1.  Open up a People's Bank Account, i.e Nakaseke People Account, with three local signatories.
2.  Your MP monthly wage will be paid directly into this account
3.  All the benefits you receive as MP will be sold and the money put into the Nakaseke People's Account.
4.  Your monthly pay will be no higher than that of a University Professor.
5.  All decisions you make in parliament that affect the people will be decided upon by the people of Nakaseke.

I know that the theiving dictator is always eager to make MPs happy by corrupting them, with people money. So we want MPs who will say, 'people here is your stolen money, that the thief gave me'.

If you are that MP, you have my 100% support, morally and otherwise.

There you go, you have a model district with a model MP!!!!!!!!!
