Kaweesi murder: CMI operative tortured at Nalufenya, forced to implicate Tumukunde
A former Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) officer Akiramu Sekajja is accusing Uganda Police of inflicting grave bodily harm accruing from repeated torture.
The officer was reportedly harmed in a scandalous scheme to make him confess that security minister Maj Gen (Rtd) Henry Tumukunde sent him to kill AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi.
Sekajja narrated his ordeal to TrumpetNews while in police cells at Kira Road Police station in Bukoto, Kampala. Sekajja becomes the second suspect after Geoffrey Musisi Galabazi who came out openly pinning police interrogators of offering him shs 1 billion to implicate Security Minister Tumukunde.
I am being used to frame Tumukunde
Speaking exclusively to this website on Tuesday morning while in custody, Sekajja narrated how he was arrested from Kyazanga in March while driving his Toyota Opa vehicle registration number UAR 868W to bury fallen officer Kaweesi who was gunned down on March 17th in Kulambiro, a Kampala Surburb.
Sekajja said that he was arrested together with an unidentified woman whom he had offered a lift from Masaka where he was reportedly travelling from.
"Both of us were taken to Nalufenya. The woman was released after two weeks," he said.
Top cops picked me up
Sekajja added that he was arrested by one of the most feared police operatives Abdu Semujju code named Minaana who is accused of torturing suspects at Nalufenya, now a dreaded incarceration facility where hordes of suspects allege they have been tortured from.
This facility in the last weeks has ignited debate in the country.
Narrating his ordeal at Nalufenya, Sekajja said he was told that he killed Kaweesi. This caught him off guard. "But I insisted I was innocent. I was then tortured terribly and my left leg was broken and my right arm."
He said after two weeks at Nalufenya, interrogators promised to release him only if he could accept to confess that Gen. Tumukunde sent him to kill Kaweesi. "I refused the malicious deal and instead preferred to let the truth sort me out. I was then kept in custody for one and half months," he said.
This is unfair to myself
With a now ailing Sekajja whimpering in pain and with no medical care, police then decided to transfer him to Kira road police station where he has spent three other weeks with no help, trial but just tribulation and pain from the previous torture.
"On the second week at Kira, detectives from flying squad came here and told me that I participated in robbery at Esso corner on Jinja road in Kampala and my accomplices were Moses Kasita and Henry Kabogo. I was shocked why my charges were changing from murder to robbery," he said.
Sekajja added that the two names mentioned are for police operatives whom he worked with while still attached to the flying squad unit. While at Kira, he has not been offered any medical attention and his leg and arm continue to rot away.
Bush war hero turned villain
Sekajja is an NRA/M bush war fighter. This is the same army that liberated Uganda from tyranny in 1986 eventually ushering President Museveni and other comrades including Maj. General Henry Tumukunde, Police Boss Kale Kayihura into power
A father of 12 children and husband to 2 wives, Sekajja hails from Rukole in Bombo. He said he was recruited into the then rag-tag NRA outfit and fought until they captured power.
"In the 1990's, we were deployed in Rwanda after the genocide and I was a body guard to a a powerful Rwandese soldier (names withheld)," he said.
His woes in the force began after an order was issued to arrest all soldiers who returned from Rwanda, "I was arrested and later dismissed from the force with disgrace." Sekajja started to conduct personal business, trading in general merchandise from Kenya and Uganda until 2000 when he met Tumukunde's ADC (then) Captain Tumusiime who asked for help.
"I was then recruited back in CMI as an undercover officer until 2012 when I quit and joined police flying squad unit. I left police in 2015 and began my private business selling cars at Pine Bond on Lumumba Avenue in Kampala, until the day I was arrested," he narrated.
The country has lately been gripped with accusations and counter accusations on what could have gone wrong and led to the murder of former high ranking police officer AIGP Felix Kaweesi, his driver and bodyguard.
Scores of arrests have been made to get the perpetrators of the crime with suspects being held incommunicado due to the nature of the crime that has seen all intelligence agencies fully engaged.
Efforts to get a comment from police spokesperson AIGP Asan Kasingye were unsuccessful as he couldn't respond to our repeated calls. His deputy Polly Namaye hadn't reverted to us with a comment when asked by the time of filing this report.
