Two days after declaring Marial Law in the southern Island of Mindanao, Philippines authorities are appealing to the population to help defeat the Islamists of the MAUTE gang and Abbu Sayyaf (Bearers of The Sword) who captured the mainly muslim city of Marawi yesterday and beheaded the local police chief. The Islamists have also captured a catholic church and are holding the prIest and over 150 worshippers as hostages. They have threatened to behead one hostage per hour if the Philippines authorities attempt to recapture the city. Meanwhile there is rising anger amongst the Filipino catholic population about fellow catholics being held hostage by the muslim fiends, with some threatening vigilante action if the army can not rescue them.
