NO MORE MEDICAL TOURISM, GOVERNMENT OF UGANDA ESTABLISHES AN INTERNATIONAL SPECIALIZED Rons Katley De Hospital
The Government of Uganda in collaboration with Finasi, an Italian investment company headed by Ms Enrica Panetti has constructed a fully-fledged, the International Specialized Hospital, about 7 kilometers (4.5 miles) on the Kampala to Entebbe road. It is a complex with several units, theaters, Doctors' accommodation and training facilities

It will be a specialized hospital for complicated diseases which attack body organs like liver, the heart, brain or kidney most common among the middle income people. It will also be the home of a superior cancer institute

The hospital has been furnished with specialized medical equipment to handle complicated health issues ranging from human organs transplantation, neuro and heart surgery and cancer treatment, among others.

In the 2007/08 Annual Health Sector Performance Report, it was discovered that Uganda had only 46% of the required doctors. As a result, by 2012, the rate at which Ugandans were going overseas for medical treatment had skyrocketed. From district officials to Government ministers to clergies no longer trusted Uganda healthcare officials, opting instead to go to India, South Africa, Dubai, Rwanda, Turkey and beyond for operations and other treatment.

Since government has been spending colossal sums of money to seek specialized treatment from other countries like India, president Museveni observed that the establishment of such a specialized hospital in the country will cut unnecessary costs of US$186 million dollars annually that Ugandans incur to travel to China and India to access medical treatment of complicated sicknesses.

The facility will eliminate a financial hemorrhage of US$186 million dollars for treatment abroad every year from Ugandans
In addition to satisfying the local; health demands, the medical facility will also serve the people in the continent, region and beyond.

Having faced with a huge brain drain of medical workers to Kenya, Rwanda, Middle East, South Africa, Angola, Caribbean countries and other parts of the world, the facility will also play a major role in attracting skilled medical personnel for employment without them seeking alternative jobs abroad

The facility is set for commissioning early June, 2017
