She Cranes captain Peace Proscovia has been in devastating form through out the tournament

Uganda Netball team, the She Cranes are the 2017 Champions of Africa.

To achieve the feat, She Cranes amassed 10  points by winning all the five games at hand, scoring 335 goals and conceding 198.

The Netball She Cranes defeated Zambia 67-50 during the final game of the week long tournament on Thursday held at the Lugogo Indoor Arena in Kampala.

Uganda's sharp goal shooter (G.S) Peace Proscovia in action

Loughborough Lightening University star player and Uganda's captain Peace Proscovia led Uganda's quest for their maiden continental glory.

In stunning fashion, Uganda made it before the passionate home fans who cheered every match with the aplomb deserved.

Uganda opened with a 72-29 victory over Botswana on the first day of the tournament last Saturday which was also the biggest in all the five matches played.

On match day two, the hosts overcame Namibia 69-31 before out muscling Malawi and Zimbabwe 66-43 and 61-45 respectively.

During the final day action on Thursday, three games were played.

Namibia lost to Zimbabwe 68-37 and Malawi, who finished second defeated Botswana 60-76.

Then, came the final match of the tournament.

Uganda dominated all the quarters winning 18-12, 37-24, 52-35 before posting the full time score, 67-50.

Prior to the final match, Uganda's head of State Yoweri Kaguta Museveni offered U.shs 96M to the team that would also be shared with the national U-20 side preparing for the World Youth Netball Championship in Botswana.

Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga, UOC President William Blick, State Minister of Sports Charles Bakabulindi, Netball Federation President Suzan Anek, National Council Sports Officials, MP Winfred Kiiza were some of the high profile guests who watched the final day action.

Anek applauded all the participating countries in the championship as she called for more continued government involvement in the development of netball.

I congratulate the Uganda She Cranes players and all the others from the rest of the participating countries.

Let us keep the fire of netball burning. I call upon continued Government support towards the development of netball

Six countries Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Botswana and hosts Uganda took part in the annual championship.

Focus turns to the World U-20 Netball Championship that will be staged in Botswana next month.
