Teacher charged after having sex with three of her pupils
An American college teacher has been charged with having sex with a 16-year-old and two 17-year-olds, plus one count of indecent liberties with a minor.
Erin McAuliffe, of Rocky Mount Prepatory, was arrested on suspicion of carrying on sexual relationships with three male students.
Police were called after allegations were made of misconduct against the teacher.
Detectives with the Rocky Mount Police Department conducted interviews with students and staff at the school, which has 1,300 students from kindergarten to 12th grade (17-18-year-olds), before obtaining a warrant for the 25-year-old's arrest.
She was held in Carteret County Jail on $20,000 bail with the first court appearance scheduled for today (June 12).
The police say that all the sexual encounters took place off campus, including the offence involving the minor. She was fired on May 4th, a day before the police were notified about the latter offence.
According to her LinkedIn profile, McAuliffe studied at Methodist University in 2014, with a BA in Maths.
She joined the school in August 2016, living in Rocky Mount, and according to her social media sites, she is not married.
According to robertslawteam.com, sex with a minor under North Carolina Law can carry a sentence of 51-64 months in prison, and with this being her first reported offence, it's likely that her sentence would not go beyond that.
