{UAH} 40 Years in jail given to Justice Kavuma’s brother Killers

Two notorious killers who murdered and robbed a special hire driver as well as young brother to the Deputy Chief Justice Steven Kavuma have been jailed 40years in Kigo prison for each of the two counts.

The convicts identified as Musa Mutungi alias Elifaazi Tiryatunga and Ronald Mujuni alias Chris were convicted on Wednesday by Dr. Justice Joseph Murangira, who informed court that prosecution through its eleven witnesses had proved the case beyond reasonable doubt. The Judge told court that the duo will serve the two sentences concurrently.

According to prosecution, the duo both residents of Kyebando zone in Wakiso district, committed the offences on 25, December, 2012 after they hired Henry Lubowa a former special hire driver at Wandegeya zone to take them to Bulange-Mengo but unfortunately along the way they turned against him and Murdered him in cold blood and fled with his Ipsum car registration number UAQ 668Q.

In his ruling, Justice Murangira expressed dismay on the rampant murders in court's jurisdiction and stated that no one has a right to end one's life except God and therefore, there is need to put away perpetrators of murder cases such that residents can enjoy their right to life.

The Judge told court that the convicts have not been remorseful throughout trial and wasted court's time before handing them a 40year-jail sentence for each of the two counts which sentences he said would run concurrently.

Meanwhile, the Judge issued a warrant of arrest for one of the convicts Ronald Mujuni who jumped court bail and went into hiding and ordered detention of his two sureties for six months, in addition to ordering detention of the convict as soon as he is arrested.

This comes just a day after the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Gen Kale Kayihura, admitted that there is a lapse in security which has allowed criminals to terrorise people in Entebbe and the environs of Wakiso District.

"You see, this has come up because of a lapse in security and it starts with the citizens. Our system is built on your responsibility and power because most people are law abiding, it is only a few that break the law and you know them," he said.

The police boss was on Thursday addressing Katabi Town Council residents outside Coinworth Supermarket where armed robbers recently killed a guard, injured an attendant and made off with an unspecified amount of money.

He said police had established that there could be a group of youth who have turned into "contract killers" in the area and are hired by one of the parties in disagreement to harm another.
