Former Uganda Cranes captain Geoffrey Massa and his female companion sustained injuries following gun drama involving the police in Kampala on Wednesday night.

According to NTV Uganda, the shooting incident occurred at Kireka, a Kampala suburb.

It is reported that Massa – who captained the Uganda national team at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon – got himself into trouble when he refused to allow police do a routine check on his "suspicious" car.

"There was an incident in which police on patrol suspecting a parked vehicle along the highway on the Namboole flyover, stopped and wanted to talk to the occupants.

It's reported that the driver, Geoffrey Massa, sped off in a rush sending more suspicion. In an attempt to stop them, officers attempted to shoot the tyres of the vehicle and subsequently injure the lady in the vehicle. He, Massa, suddenly stopped, almost hit another motorist and allegedly hit his forehead on the windscreen, injuring himself," the Police statement explained.

Consequently, Massa and his companion, identified as Josephine Maliza, were rushed to a nearby clinic for treatment according to the Police.

Now unattached, Massa boasts an expansive professional football career that enabled him enjoy successive stints in Egypt, Cyprus and South Africa.

Police say they are investigating the incident
