The launch of the survey of land required for the multibillion shillings sugar plant project Thursday aborted after the residents rioted and blocked lands minister from travelling to Bomben village.
Scores of elderly women protesters stripped, exposing their breasts. The Police used teargas in the air to disperse the angry residents who blocked a road at Teakuteu-Kololo Market, seven kilometres to Bomben, where the minister for lands, Betty Amongi, was scheduled to launch the survey exercise.
Amongi accused the MPs, led by Odonga-Otto of mobilising and inciting the residents to protest. The land, measuring 10,000hectares and belonging to 100 people, is required for a sugar plant to be established by Madhvani Group.
The minister was accompanied by the resident district commissioner Bilak Jalmoro, the Fourth Division deputy commander, Col. Ronald Bigirirwa and Regional Police Commander Bosco Otim.
