Mourners Walk Out On Otafire At Maj Rurangaranga Burial

There was drama at the burial of the Uganda Peoples Congress strongman Rtd Edward Rurangaranga after mourners walked out on Justice and Constitutional Affairs Maj Gen Kahinda Otafire.

The angry mourners led by the Mitooma district chairman Benon Karyeija walked out as Otafire who represented central government stood up to give a speech

Karyeija accuses Otafire who hails from the same district of masterminding the recent move by the district councilors to have him thrown out of office.

Kahinda is also accused of using his ministerial portfolio as justice minister to torment his political tormentor Dononzio Kahonda who defeated him in the Ruhinda county area Member of Parliament elections.

Kahonda ever since he defeated Kahinda has been in and out of prison on what his lawyers' term as politically motivated charges from different courts in Kampala, Jinja and Luwero.

As Otafire stood to address a mammoth crowd, the group could not bear to hear from him before fleeing the burial ceremony.

Gen. Kahinda as he concluded his speech, he called Karyeija to the microphone but was told that he left immediately after he started speaking.

Last months, angry local leaders at Mandella national stadium "baptised" Otafiire as they blocked him from addressing them.

They mercilessly poured water on him bringing the gathering to a close. According to reports, the local leaders had expected to meet the President (not Otafiire) and also accused the minister of being an agent of presidential age limit removal.

Maj Edward Rurangaranga died last week Sunday at the age of 85 after succumbing to diabetes. He was accorded a state burial by government of Uganda. He was buried at his ancestral home in Kitanjojo -Kitagata Sheema district

Speaker after speaker commended Rurangaranga hard work in transforming his area and the entire great Ankole region.
