Kampala Woman MP Nabilah Naggayi Sempala has accused former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) president Dr Kizza Besigye for causing the current crisis in the party.

More fault lines have merged within the FDC, Uganda's largest opposition political grouping, with reports of party MPs reportedly planning to join former party president Mugisha Muntu.

Last week's shakeup of the opposition leadership in parliament seems to have divided the party further.

FDC president Patrick Amuriat dropped Muntu allies — except Kira Municipality MP Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda.

Those dropped include Kasese Woman MP Winnie Kiiza, who was replaced with Gulu district woman MP Betty Aol Ochan as leader of opposition in parliament.

Amuriat also replaced Bugweri county MP Abdu Katuntu with Kawempe South legislator Mubarak Munyagwa as chairperson of the committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (Cosase).

Although Naggayi has praised Kiiza for handing over office, she could not rule out the reports that her sacking could have been part of a protracted purge against those who supported Muntu.

In her reaction to the current crisis in the party, Naggayi, a member of the FDC, started by calling Besigye a liar who was, sadly, celebrated in Uganda.

"Political deception is celebrated in this country,' said Naggayi in a live video.

"Any one who has periodically and persistently told lies is celebrated in Uganda."

She further argued that Ugandans had a "communal agreement on celebrating liars" who even had a "defence crew to defend all their lies whenever they come out"

Some of the liars claimed to be "saviours and angels", she continued.

The Genesis of FDC Crisis According to MP Nabilah Naggayi Sempala

Naggayi admitted that there was a problem within FDC.

"In my party the FDC, we have a perennial, persistent divide that has been fanned by intellectuals," she said.

"Behind the scenes, a storm is brewing."

The FDC's crisis started in 2008, she claimed.

"Since 2008, everyone who stood with Muntu is a mole", an idea that she said Ugandans were unable to understand.

"Across the board, Muntu became the chief mole and anybody who supported him has been a mole. The exodus of strong politicians from the FDC has been because of that cancer." she said.

According to the legislator, "no one dares challenge the status quo in FDC".

"And when you challenge it, you are hounded out like a rat. and the hounding is persistent."
