{UAH} BodaBoda Murder Case in the Monitor

CCTV cameras cover only about 40% of the city. Uber , Safeboda etc,.
already exist and those are genuine actors.

Bodaboda crime is to stay with us for quite sometime, even get worse!

Bodaboda murders as far as I have been looking at that particular
crime sector is nation wide with an average of 5 bodabodas riders
murdered and/or brutally injured in theft attempts on a daily basis
nationwide.

The bodaboda issue in Uganda is far more complicated than you can imagine.

Bodaboda crime is will not stop soon so long as invisible actors
remain at large.

Bodaboda riders have been used partly by the state as well as other
private actors in different covert and overt schemes (Kitata BodaBoda
2010 group)

President Museveni has on several occasions, instructed that Bodaboda
are electronically tagged - why has that not been done?

Jeniffer Musisi was stopped from regulating bodabodas in the city for
reason only NRM government can explain!

Crime in Uganda is a result of many things mainly:

1. Inconsistent Military and Political policies
2. Incompetent Socioeconomic policies
3. Organised crime
4. Poverty Structure (majority bodabodas are not above 13 years of education)
5. Some people in public service including police officers are
bodaboda owners they hire out for daily income. Two bodabodas can earn
you between UGX 20000- 30000 per day.
6. Failure by the state to regulate the Transport Sector.
7. State disrespect of the (Traffic) Laws - this has a cultural background!

I remember 20 years ago discussing bodaboda issue with Benedict
Mutyaba former MP. He blatantly told me if you want to fight poverty
allow bodabodas - he was talking of tukutuku the kind existing in
Vietnam. That is how Bodabodas became a transport system in Kampala!
