First Lady Janet Museveni is currently meeting with Deputy Attorney General, Mwesigwa Rukutana, city businessman Bob Kabonero and lawyer Justus Karuhanga at her home in Ruhaama, Ntungamo District following an assassination attempt last night.
On Friday night, Kabonero was in company of Rukutana travelling from a rally in Ntungamo ahead of Monday's NRM primaries when they fell in an ambush of Karuhanga's armed supporters.
"The car belonging to Rukutana was smashed with stones and pangas," said a source who spoke to us on condition of anonymity.
Rukutana and Karuhanga are fiercely contesting in the NRM primaries for Rushenyi County MP seat.
The trio was unreachable for comment when we posted this story.
However, contacted by ChimpReports on Saturday afternoon, Uganda's Ambassador to Rwanda, Richard Kabonero (Bob Kabonero's brother) confirmed the incident.

"It is true, my brother and Mr Rukutana were attacked last night as they drove from a rally. The attackers were armed with pangas, hoes as well as guns," said Kabonero.
"The matter is now being investigated by police," he added.
This is the latest unpleasant incident in the ruling party's primaries marred by violence.
NRM's office in Sembabule was recently torched in the violence that has spread to many parts of the country.
The primaries are slated for Monday next week. The successful MP candidates will then face off with the opposition or independent candidates in the national elections.
Kabonero told us that after being attacked, Rukutana's bodyguard fired gunshots in the air.
"That's when the attackers fled. If Mr Rukutana didn't have a bodyguard, the worst would have happened," said Kabonero.
We have also separately learnt that Gen Kale Kayihura was contacted last night about the attack thus ordering the arrest of the suspected perpetrators.
"The notorious thugs of Karuhanga only identified as Jamada, Nasser and Kaunda are under arrest," said a security source.
