[UAH] 2015 race: CCM gives nod to members - National - thecitizen.co.tz
Dodoma. The chairman of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi, President Jakaya Kikwete, yesterday gave a go-ahead to CCM members with presidential ambitions to proceed with their plans for the 2015 polls nomination. However, he urged them to do so prudently without causing infighting that could weaken the party.
Speaking at an indoor meeting with CCM parliamentarians here yesterday, President Kikwete reportedly warned against "camps" within the party.
Information from reliable sources within the party said that the meeting was called purposely to discuss various issues, including implementation of the party's 2010 election manifesto in different constituencies.
"He said, those wishing to vie for the post should do so, but they should avoid forming groups that could endanger the growth of the party, he also stressed on the importance of strengthening the party at all levels," the source noted.
Mr Kikwete's warning against rival political camps within CCM recalls severe wounds inflicted by the bitterly contested presidential nomination in 2005.
In the contest which Kikwete won, CCM members were divided in camps that fought hard to ensure that their candidate succeeds.
During the party's convention last year in Dodoma, President Kikwete admitted that camps and infighting had weaken the party and had contributed, together with corruption, to loss of popularity.
Yesterday, President Kikwete also spoke strongly against MPs who correct and challenge the government in Parliament, saying they have the right to do so wisely.
"He said, the MPs were doing a good job, but they should avoid bad language when correcting and challenging the government," said the source.
According to the source, the meeting had four main agenda, which include: the 2015 presidential nomination, MPs' visits to their constituencies and implementation of the party's 2010 election manifesto, basing on president's promises.
Others include reminding MPs to supervise the government and correct it without weakening its efforts in bringing development to the people.
However, it was established that MPs had their own agenda, apart from those listed, including that of conducts of some ministers and the way they collaborated with MPs and the people.
