[UAH] Let us all write to Ugandan Police and Army Officers, the Presidency and Cabinet Members

A wonderful young Ugandan patriot called Sunday Geoffrey has come up with a very sensible way forward in the on-going Ugandan Saga, where the State is using the most repressive and inhumane methods to shut down all independent media networks, and to deny the citizens their constitutional rights to debate serious and crucial matters of concern. He wants us all to text, email, and telephone Ugandan ...officials to demand for respect of human rights and press freedoms.

I am adding my voice to that of Sunday Geoffrey, and this is what I have to say - [the message Sunday wants us to send is at the end of this comment, together with some numbers of Ugandan officials to start with.]

Sunday Geoffrey you are a great Ugandan Patriot and your contribution to the Struggle against the Museveni dictatorship is appreciated by millions of Ugandans in the villages, towns and cities across our country. Even those who do not use internet will appreciate when they learn of what you are trying to do for Uganda.

What has been lacking in this honourable Struggle is a coordinated, systemic approach using modern technology, which the Museveni regime can hardly ban and shut down, like they have done to the all the local independent media outlets. What you are starting - collective texting, emailing and other forms of telephony, is the best way of moving the Ugandan Freedom Struggle to a new modern realm.

We will support you all the way. I have worked for global human rights organisations, like International PEN where I was an international Board Member, and we were convinced that the methods you are advocating here are very effective and can cause change - for example making imprisoned journalists released.

I am now going to request International PEN to trigger the same bombardment of thousands of emails, text messages and phone calls from their global membership to the Ugandan Presidency, police and army officials, as well as to the UN, EU, and international governments, like the UK, asking for the human rights of Ugandan citizens and the freedoms of the media to be respected.

Thank you very much Comrade Sunday Geoffrey. God Bless you. You are a TRUE UGANDAN AT HEART. I hope you have sent your message to the email forum of Ugandans-at-Heart.

THIS IS THE MESSAGE WE SHOULD ALL SEND TO THESE SENIOR ARMY OFFICERS:
==================================
Dear Afande,

I am calling on you because I strongly believe you are in position to help us, we the people of Uganda. I am deeply concerned by indications of a widespread crackdown on human rights advocates in recent days in which a systematic campaign of Police-led harassment and intimidation of the media, appears to have been set in motion. Could you please call your counterparts in the Police and ask them to show restrain and respect the rule of Law, the constitution and the people of Uganda.

Thank you, Afande , for your cooperation
