[UAH] UN's Gromo Alex, a hero of Rwanda genecide, passes on:

Folks;   I just received the sad news about the passing of a former colleague Gregory Gromo Alex, formerly of the United Nations Development Program, UNDP.   Gromo, as we call him, was head of UNDP in Kigali during the 1994 genocide and braved bullets to gather and protect civilians from the various marauding militia groups. At one point, his "shelter" had over 2,000 refugees. And he still had to criss-cross war zones to deliver and feed refugees in other centers.   Gromo is one of the unsung heroes to emerge from the traumatizing experience of 20 years ago. Having survived bullets in Rwanda, he was felled by cancer early this morning in Pittsburg, PA.   Gromo was that everyday guy who said and did special things. He took the Rwanda assignment while in Ethiopia! The dude was hopping from one danger zone to the next.   He leaves behind his beautiful Rwandese wife, Marie Grace Uwanyirigira and two kids.   Rest In Peace, Gromo; you are free now.   Pojim
