[UAH] Why Ugandans should fight for UTL

The other day Abbey was smiling because Mzee Muruli Mukasa has joined instead of calling on Ugandans to ask them why they are here - is Muruli Mukasa using UTL to connect here - then Abbey also introduces minister Kyambadde Amelia. It is a mess all over!

Uganda is developing by what percentage?

Why Ugandans should fight for UTL and Reasons:

  1. Loose of Revenue
  2. Endangering country's and people's security
  3. Loose of telecommunications technological development
  4. Loose of vacancies
  5. Inability to network the country

Let me start with point 1 – let us take an example of Busia, Nimule, Oraba and Kisoro and Kampala. – These entire places have one thing in common. They are business locations and nearly all are in some ways boarder towns i.e. entry points. For any business to function well there must be an address (posts and telecommunication), easy communication, fax and in so doing all business here would be connected to UTL facilities. Now if Kampala for example has 2 million residences and all those residences were connected and utilised only a conservative fee of 5'000 UGX per month that would amount to 60'000 UGX a year. This in return will turn out to be 120'000'000'000 UGX shs for UTL just only in Kampala.

What will Kagina be getting hence what will Kiwanuka offer Makerere and Kyambogo telecommunication engineering research and innovation – see the foolishness of village politician calling themselves revolutionaries?!!

This point brings me to point 3 – ask your self- how many telecommunication engineers do we have in Uganda? You will get surprised?! How much money does British telecom (BT), French telecom (Orange), Swedish telecom, Norwegian sonera, American Telecommunication (AT) and appended research facilities like Universities earn from telecommunication engineering and innovations in a year? My years in Sweden – every seasons the Swedish telecom come up with new technologies hence I was forced to buy telephone receivers. This technology was directly developed by the Swedish telecom to meet demands of the time. I will give an example – telephone could answer telephone calls, I could send sms on telephone receiver, do banking etc. By selling off UTL Ugandan youth have totally missed out on participating in the world largest telecommunication engineering technology and innovation!

This brings me to another issue of security point 2: I hear security minister is hear to do what? The first thing to breakdown Gaddafi was to bomb his communication facilities. Besides that, if you do not have AIRTIME on your mobile your own security is in great jeopardy – in civilised nations a telephone booth will be within a walking distance that is less than one kilometre so that you can be able to place a call to a police station, medical facility, fire bridge and an ambulance etc. In essence, a hyena will not attack a woman giving birth on the side of the road deep down in Ankole simply because she had no access to a communication network, UTL must provide. Moreover with this network be sure trains if we had them will not be functioning as they should lest you had no airtime!

Now you can realise that just from three points I have landed on point 4 vacancies above and I have created as many vacancies as possible – since all telephone networks and axillaries have to work, technologies have to be invented, parts manufactured, design made by industrial artist etc. These workers pay as you earn (PAYE)! NRM is economic saboteurs!

Just imagine that you wanted to know how many pupils are in Mutolele, Bugema or Bukumi secondary school! The best thing will it be to send Internal security agency operatives – Networking is important for in major hospital , school, dispensaries, prisons, police stations they will be updating their inventory and list of employees, online. It is up to you to think that with Vsat, mobile phones, or whatever nonsense you could do better than having a landline.

I pity Mzee Muruli Mukasa working under such primitive entity like NRM. If I were you I would have resigned as soon as yesterday. Ms. Amelia Kyambadde should be equally disillusioned, which business coming from Asia, Europe or America will establish in a country like – and set-up manufacturing unit in Nakasongola or Butambala with no telephone networks?
