[UAH] Army withdraws guns from Sejusa
In what looks like another sign of a total fallout, the Ugandan army has withdrawn all guns, government vehicles and army uniforms from Gen David Sejusa, aka Tinyefuza.
Sejusa, believed to be in London, is a member of the UPDF High Command. In April he wrote a now-controversial letter demanding an investigation into an alleged assassination plot against officials opposed to the perceived presidential ambitions by President Museveni's son, Brig Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
Speaking to The Observer on Saturday, Sejusa's lead lawyer Joseph Luzige said the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence took the military hardware on Wednesday from the general's Kampala residence.
"I and CMI Chief Lt Col Mwesigye were present when the said army property and two guns were being taken away from my client's residence. They also gave me Gen Sejusa's belongings like chairs and fridges from his coordination office before they closed it," Luzige said.
Luzige added that CMI wanted to replace military guards at Sejusa's residence but when family members refused, they agreed to leave them for a few days, until family members can hire private guards.
Guards were first removed from Sejusa's Mawogola firm, with some sources claiming that some cattle have since been stolen.
"Though all signs indicate that the army is preparing to drag him to the General Court Martial when he comes back, they told me there is [no] charge so far preferred against him," Luzige added.
Last month, Sejusa instructed Luzige to inquire from the army and Director of Public Prosecutions the kind of charges they wanted to prefer against him before he prepares his return. Luzige said they took all military uniforms including those of official functions yet in the event that he comes back and is arrested, he is supposed to appear in a military court in uniform.
When contacted for a comment, Sejusa confirmed that, indeed, all government property which were at his residence were withdrawn from him and his personal effects were given to his family members.
"It's true as my lawyer who was there can confirm. There are many problems and more are yet to come before the final fall. So, all should be prepared," Sejusa said in an email sent from his iPad.
