[UAH] Christine Kaluma

My friends,

I am still very upset about the death of Christine Kaluma.I am still in tears. She was my friend and represented my family when I got married in Lagos, Nigeria. None of my family could travel to Nigeria so she stepped in.  She made the speech when my then very young Moscow born wife was handed over to her and she accepted her on behalf of my family.

I hardly knew her and she did not ask me where in Uganda I come from, not from Dokolo or anywhere else in Uganda. She just wanted the wedding to go ahead.

Kaluma was a great woman who was inspirational.

I will always miss her strong handshake, the warmth and smile in her face, a woman that I still love, kind, compassionate, very beautiful. Above all a woman who did not care about tribe or ethnicity.

I am going to tell my two Nigerian children that the woman who made the acceptance speech at the marriage of their mother in 1993 is now dead. And they never got to meet her.
