The High Court in India has cleared former junior Regional Affairs minister Isaac Musumba and Igara East MP Michael Mawanda and businessman Matthias Magoola  who have been battling charges of alleged extortion.

The court has ruled in their favour, setting the trio free.

They were arrested in April on allegations of trying to extort $20 million (Shs51b) from directors of Videocon, an electronics company. The money reportedly accrued from a Ugandan mining deal gone-bad.

Speaking shortly after being cleared, Mr Musumba said he was happy that the court found out that they had no case to answer.

Mr Musumba said they plan to return home soon.
