If we are to go by Chris Rwakasisi's account, DP planned and executed the 1985 military junta against UPC government. The Junta succeed party because of Obote's trust in institutions and lack of military acumen. Senior UPC politicians and army officers including VP Paulo Mwanga sabotaged Obote. After losing the trusted Oyite Ojok, his replacement, Smith Opon Acak though highly trained, was simply a drunkard. Now we know why Kaguta is in control of the army. Rwakasisi visited his house in Kololo to ask him to deploy soldiers to quell the coup only to find Opon-Acak drunk and lying on his wife's laps with a bottle of whisk saying the situation was under control. Yet the appointment of Opon-Acak as Chief of Staff on recommendation of Rwakasisi and Peter Otai, caused the Bazzilio Okellos to ally with rebel NRA of Yoweri Museveni and the DP. A mere position of Chief of Staff caused the Bazzillio's who were the majority in the army, to betray their own UPC government. The UPC in Acholi were unaware of the Okellos alliance with the DP and NRA. One may ask: How has the Acholi/ Bazzilio coup against Obote benefited the Acholi to date?
