Kenya: A 30 year old newly married man from Mulot division in Narok South district was recently forced to sell off his two bulls to buy his freedom, after he was nabbed with a secondary school girl in a lodging. The girl had been sent home from school because of the recently called off teachers' strike.
The two love-birds had previously talked over the phone and planned to meet in an urban centre some kilometers away from the school.
The man had asked the girl to come in civilian attire so as to hoodwink the public.
As planned, the girl walked in to the hotel in civilian clothing and headed directly to a room that the business man had booked.
Unluckily for them, just directly opposite the hotel was a newly opened pharmacy that was operated by the girl's neighbour. Matters were even made worse by the fact that the pharmacist was a friend to the girl's father and he had been approached for some cash to offset her fee balance.
The pharmacist timed the two to settle before alerting the administration police officers.
Nabbed
The police in an exaggerated call of duty arrested the two and frog marched them to the police line where the girl's father was summoned.
The trader, fearing that things might get out of hand, asked that the matter be handled out of court.
In an ugly and shocking turn of events, the girl's father demanded that the trader clears his daughter's outstanding school fees, which was in arrears of Sh40,000.
The police on the other hand claimed that they could not be left just like that. They, too, needed something small.
Unluckily for the nabbed fellow, he only had Sh3,000 in his wallet. His plea that he be released to go and look for the money fell on deaf ears.
"Piga simu nyumbani. Mwambia mama watoto alete pesa haraka (call your wife and tell her to bring money you are in trouble)," the police told him. Never mind the last person he wanted to hear of his philandering ways was his wife.
The trader soon made a few calls to his friends to rescue him by sending him something small via M-pesa, in vain.
He was forced, however, to quickly sell his two bulls — in minutes — to settle the debt immediately because he did not want the matter to go out of hand.
Interestingly, when his wife asked him why he was selling the animals, his reply was hilarious if not convincing.
"The dry spell has just begun and you know that bulls are heavy feeders. We shall save the money till the onset of the rainy season so that we buy several young bulls," he told her.
