{UAH} Col Shaban Bantariza trying to get back into M7's good books?

In last Wednesday's issue of The Observer, I read with amusement, Col Shaban Bantariza's claim that he does not see a possibility of this government being overthrown.

He cited NRA that launched a successful insurgency against the Obote regime, largely because of local support from the population. He sneered at General David Sejusa for promoting war in newsrooms in foreign capitals, and argued that Sejusa's project was a non-starter, because the population cannot support him.

Saying that the population would not support any attempt to fight NRM government is misplaced. Bantariza should ask himself why there is a high concentration of nervous security operatives, armed to the teeth, trying to contain a restless population. Bantariza is deluded by the old-fashioned Luweero-style war, where you hide in the jungle, steal peasants' food and conscript them into insurgency against government. Modern coups are different.
