{UAH} Fresh Landslides Hit Bududa Where is our good president to shoot these mudslides

An unspecified number of people are suspected to have been buried by a fresh landslide that hit Bududa district on Saturday August 10 afternoon.

John Baptist Nambeshe, the Bududa District LC V chairman says the landslides that occurred at around 3pm followed heavy rains over the last two days.

He said that he received reports from the survivors indicating that the landslides have affected more than 8,000 households in the parishes of Matuwa, Namirumba, Bumayoka and Bushiyi in Bulucheke Sub County.

He further said that more than 100 households are believed to have been buried by the landslides bringing fear that hundreds of people could either be dead or trapped.

"Mudslides also forced boulders and soil that blocked River Manafwa and destroyed the Manafwa Bridge rendering some areas inaccessible," said John Baptist Nambeshe.

Hundreds of the survivors are stranded on the other side of River Manafwa while those on the other ridge of the river who could have gone for rescue have also been blocked.

The Office of the Prime Minister has been notified for immediate intervention and the only way the survivors can be rescued is by airlifting them.

A team of the district officials and the locals have visited to the scene of the accidents to try and rescue the survivors.

John Baptist Nambeshe also noted that their efforts to reach the area are also being hampered by the continuous heavy rains which have devastated the roads. He said the area where the landslides occurred also has poor telecommunication network which has also affected their efforts to get information from the survivors.

Bududa is a landslide prone area that has experienced at least three disasters over the last three years. The main ones were in March 2010 in Bulucheke and Nametsi areas that is said to have killed at least 300 people. Another landslide in June 2012 killed at least 11 people and displaced hundereds others.
