{UAH} Mayiga's statement at the ceremony at which the Memorandum of Understanding was signed
Government returned Friday Buganda's Properties to the Kingdom's Administration.
Following is Katikkiro Owekitiibwa Charles Peter Mayiga's statement at the ceremony at which the Memorandum of Understanding signed by both President Yoweri Museveni on behalf of Government and Ssabasajja Kabaka was handed over to the Katikkiro at State House Entebbe.
"Your Excellency, I thank you very much for participating in the talks with us and listening to us. My predecessor Eng. J.B Walusimbi started these organisations. There were a number of discussions concerning this Memorandum of Understanding.
I was given this team compromising Prince Wasajja, Owekitiibwa Apollo Makubuya and a subject of Ssabasajja, Ndiwalana Herbert. The properties have been a source of conflict between the Mengo Administration and the Central Government. With that out of the way, we shall initiate development programmes to help our people get out of poverty.
Meetings have been long and protracted. This sorts out the free movement of Kabaka to Bugerere and Buruli counties. People there are free to enjoy their culture. It also covers the settlement of the outstanding arrears amounting to over Ugshs 20 billion and a number of our properties. Fortunately the Attorney General is here. We are also going to set up a team with the President to do the necessary verification. The Memorandum of Understanding guarantees payment within the next financial year, 2014/2015.
