New Buganda clan demands recognition

While meeting members of the clan on Tuesday, Mr Mayiga said although the group claims to be "royals", their clan is not among the clans recognised in Buganda."It the reigning Kabaka who has powers to create new clans and this has been the norm since the days of Ssekabaka Kintu. You should follow the norms if you want to become an independent clan," he said.

The clan

The group comprising 50 members was led by their leader Kivulu Musoke Sinagabula III. Other members included Prof Francis Nagenda, who designed the Kabaka Mutebi's statue at Bulange and John Nagenda, a senior presidential adviser on media issues, among others.

 

Mr Serugo Luutu, the head of culture and norms of the clan said their lineage and clan heads are different from the two recognised Gabunga and Nankele Mamba (Lungfish) clans. Mr Mayiga urged them to continue working within the existing clans pending the Kabaka's decision on the matter. The group handed over documents to Mr Mayiga, detailing the background of their clan and a proposed document on how problems can be rectified in the Kingdom.
