{UAH} Rwanda and conflict of interest in the Security Council

Rwanda which is currently a member of the United Nations Security Council is in a very difficult situation which will constrain its impartiality while discussing and voting in the Security Council on issues in the Great Lakes region where it is alleged to be involved in threatening peace and security in one way or another.

Since Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF) came to power in 1994 Rwanda government has been involved in the destabilization of DRC. It is alleged that it is directly supporting M23 that is terrorizing Eastern DRC. Stories circulating indicate that Rwanda is now threatening to directly attack DRC and Tanzania.

Under these circumstances Rwanda is unlikely to carry out the functions of the Security Council to maintain international peace and security in the Great Lakes region.
