{UAH} Ugandans elites are soon changing their names to democratic guards?????
Folks,
Besigye, the former National Political Commissar (whatever that means in a constitutional democracy?) recently came to the conclusion that the elite of Uganda are a problem because they seem not to appreciate his crusade for protests. What he meant and actually said is that the elite should show concern and compassionate for those who are bearing the brunt. The dude has got a huge point. It is the reason change is not coming soon. But I know peasants are also the key to reforms.
They are the same elite that sit in pubs every evening swallowing copious amounts of booze, debating politics and regime change. That's as far as they go, armchair activists. In Tahrir Square the lumpens and the elite stood together cheek by jowl. Am sure that was his point.
Point is simple. If one is dissatisfied with their leaders, why sit in a pub and whinge all night about it? Even Museveni himself, an elite, didn't waste time engaging in empty talk. He wanted change and went for it, the rest is history. BTW he could have opted to swivel around in an air-conditioned office.
I agree with KB that we are a nation of cowards. I really think the level of corruption shd have aroused enough outrage to kick the bums out. unfortunately When a Ugandan is fed, he is content. Oriental virtues of dignity, honour and self respect are secondary if at all, so even if M7 continues to trample upon those, don't expect any rioting. But I really think it's a matter of time. Libyans waited 42 yrs, Syrians 50, Egyptians 30+. Every dog has its day!
