{UAH} WE CAN SAVE MABIRA FOREST AND STILL HAVE ENOUGH SUGAR.

By Peter Marco

WE CAN SAVE MABIRA FOREST AND   STILL HAVE ENOUGH SUGAR.

The issue of Mabira has been the main focus of Political, Social and Economic debate that as involved and engaged many people in Uganda.

For many years Mabira has been the Mother and Father of many People and Human Natural,   the forest is the Food basket for many animals that stay in it, that are the beauty of Uganda.

It has provided food, fruits, medicine and firewood for many people living in nearby areas like Lugazi, Mukono, Nkokonjeru and other surrounding areas.

According to Scientists and Geography we all know that Forests are the source of rain due to the moisture they create in burning the Carbone omissions and other gases which creates rainfall.

Has we all know that Agricultural is the Backbone of Uganda, Forests that create rain and promote Agriculture they are of a very important factor to the country.

Water that is created from and due to the presence of the  forest is important to  people and the country as well, the issue of Global Warming is real and happening, so the only way to stop it is to preserve the trees and forests to try and control it.

We all know that they are human factors that are essential and needed in life; the second thing is the economical aspect that is important to the country.

But we need to strike a balance between everything. Uganda's population is increasing rapidly so there is a need to address the issue of overpopulation that will be a problem in the future,   and when the population increases demand for essential things like Sugar goes up and Sugar Cane will be needed to meet the demand.

But the solution does not lie in giving away Mabira the Tourist attraction the Source of many things.

The Solution is modern farming of crop that can provide Sugar that is needed, and the crop that growth fast, with high sugar percentage compare to Sugar Cane and on small piece of land than Sugar Cane which needs acres and acres of land.

The modern crop that Uganda must grow is Sugar Beets to reduce dependence on Sugar Cane and Save Mabira Forest.

Sugar Beet Contains 17% of Sugar while cane contains only 12%,Sugar Beets takes 4 month to harvest while cane takes 11 to 18 month to grow Sugar Beets are cheap to maintain and can be grown on a small scale compared to cane.

Countries like Pakistan, Germany, France, UK, Russia, USA have been growing Sugar Beets for years which as stopped the dependence on Sugar Cane in their countries.

Take the example of United Kingdom they used to depend on Sugarcane that was grown in the Caribbean and transported to the UK, which was so costly and expensive while the end product from Cane was not satisfactory.

They stopped growing Sugar Cane and transporting it which reduced the costs when they introduced Sugar Beet which is cheap with high sugar percentage, growth fast, no small piece of land and anywhere regardless the type of land

So if the Sugar Manufacturing Companies in Uganda what to meet the demand and reduce the cost of Sugar the Solution is Sugar Beets which is cost saving and less land is needed,

We must stop encroach on Mabira by anyone including the Locals who are cutting the trees Illegal. Let's look for the modern way of preserving the Natural of the country and reducing Sugar price from going up, by growing more Sugar Beets than Cane which does not meet our demand creating divisions, fights and destroying the Country.

Sugar Manufacturing Companies in Uganda must take the pass of others countries if they are serious about reducing Sugar prices and increase on supply, by growing Sugar Beets that will Save Mabira the Beauty of Country because even Tourist who comes to see Mabira they add more on the Economy.

If we cannot introduce the Birth Control Bill that will allow every Ugandan citizen from the age of 16 to 79 years of age to have only 3 children, lets grow Sugar Beet that will save the Nation.
