THE AFFORDABLE CARE ACT
In March 23rd 2010, President Obama signed into law the most sweeping, most comprehensive and most expansive health care law in the history of the United States. The Affordable Care Act (aka ObamaCare) provides affordable health Care Insurance for those 21 million people in the US who do not have health insurance, because they can't afford it. The law works by providing subsidies to those who can't afford to buy health insurance on their own. The African community in general (and the Cameroonian community) for the most part will benefit from this incredible opportunity to finally be able to afford to see a Doctor not just when they get sick, but even before they get sick. Think about the children of the new immigrant with limited income, think about all the nurses, all those security guards, who work for Agencies and companies that don't provide Health Care coverage to their employees.
Well, the good news is now. The affordable Care Act goes into effect on October, 1st 2013. As of this date, you will able to buy health insurance in the so called "Health Exchanges", an online market place where you can shop for Health Insurance.
* · Insurance company can no longer deny you coverage because of pre-existing condition.
* · Your children can stay on your plan up until the age of 26 years.
* · All Insurance plans will cover preventive services for free. Think about getting that mammogram, that pap smear, that cancer screening all for free.
This is what you need to know. When you get to the Exchange, you will need to provide some basic information, such as your zip code, your age, your gender, your marital status, your estimated income for the year 2014. Based on this information, the HealthCare calculator will compute how much you should pay. The more money you make, the more will your monthly premium will be. The less you make, the less the premium will be for you.
