Dar is already a
member of SADC. She never consulted the other East African members about her decision to join. From my readings and through watching Tanzanian TVs, most
Tanzanians prefer membership with SADC than with East Africa.
What ruffles me somewhat
Is the rush for a political union. I would have preferred that the group of the willing(Kenya, Uganda ,Burundi and Rwanda) first forge a strong economic union at this stage rather than trying to consummate a political union.
A federal East Africa at this early stage is not advisable. We need to do one thing at a time and do it well.
If its proponents insist on having their way,I am sure the people will reject it when the matter is subjected to a referendum, as it must be.
By the way, Tanzania could rejoin the club at a later time if she should wish to do so. But under no circumstance should we waste time waiting for unwilling partner to make up her mind. We must move on.
