Jinja District Officials Forced to make do with Public toilets after National Water and Sewerage Corporation Disconnected their Water due to Accumulated Bills

By James Magoola

As you read this, all is not well at Jinja District Local Government headquarters as work is at a standstill following National Water & Sewerage Corporations’ decision to disconnect their premises from accessing water over failure to remit over Shs100m in arrears.

According to a source in National Water & Sewerage Corporation, Jinja District has been remitting its money in quarters annually but that it had taken long without paying making it inevitable to disconnect them.

“We have always dealt with the district well and they always paid quarters but of late, they have been paying money lackadaisically without prioritizing it as a necessity, our source said adding that this could have been as a result of change in administration.

However, when contacted, Hope Olive Nakyanzi, Jinja Chief Administrative Officer denied having any outstanding water bill from National Water and Sewerage Corporation and referred our reporter to
the office supervisor.

“I am tired of that question. Owulidde ssebo? I don’t have any disconnection bill so you ask the office supervisor," Nakyanzi shot back . Unfortunately the office supervisor’s line was unavailable and we failed to ascertain a comment.

As a result of the water crisis, the District’s official toilets have been closed down and it is reported that officials have had to make do with public toilets in town for nature’s call.

It has always been a norm at the District that all toilets remain open 24/7 until this predicament that prompted the in-charge to padlock them.
