Dear Allan,
Recently a Ugandan friend who has lived in South Africa for long wanted to send his daughter to study in Uganda for a term. He was shocked to learn that he had to apply for a foreigners permit for his daughter to Study in Uganda because she was born in South Africa. With this information, I searched for and read the Ugandan Immigration and Citizenship Act Amendments (2009).
I was surprised to learn how that Act affects all Ugandans especially those of dual citizenship and children born outside Uganda. I believe this Act was passed because the government genuinely wanted to put in place a diaspora supportive law but did not realise the Implication of the language they used. Please see details of the Petition on this link:
Together with a few friends, we decided to take action i.e. Petition the Ugandan government to change the law. We are aiming for 10,000 Signatures to Petition the Minister of Internal affairs to raise a motion in parliament.
I'm requesting you to join us in this cause to sign our petition and promote it on the link above among your friends both in and outside Uganda. Together we can make a difference. When you sign, please refrain from adding political comments, our quest is apolitical . Also encourage those that you share it with to observe the same.
Sincerely,
Joseph Kamara-Melbourne
