You Will Not Break My Resolve, Lukwago Assures M7
Beleaguered Kampala City Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has blamed Ugandan president Yoweri Museveni for his current woes that he admits have since taken a toll on his family.
Lukwago who faces possible impeachment on Monday after being found guilty of abuse of office and misconduct among others however says whatever the president unleashes on him will not deter him his desire to "fight for good governance, constitutionalism and the rule of law"
The embattled Mayor made this revelation on Friday in a post on his Facebook wall.
The released Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) tribunal report found Lukwago guilty of misconduct, abuse of office and incompetence.
The tribunal was set up to hear a petition by Councillors that questioned the competence of the sitting Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago.
Lukwago who much of the week in police detention says the "persecution and humiliation" unleashed on him may succeed in manipulating the law but will not break his spirit.
Lukwago has always blamed the government and in particular president Museveni for fighting hard to eliminate him from the leadership of the city. The government denies this claim.
Below is what Lukwago wrote;
"I must admit that the unconscionable persecution and humiliation you have unleashed on me has taken its toll on the entire family. You may no doubt succeed in manipulating or circumventing the the law to whittle down or completely usurp the authority entrusted to me by close to 230,000 voters. A section of the skewed media may help you denigrate and cast the image of Lukwago as being chaotic and anti development. And I may as well be in my last days on earth. But I want to assure you on one thing, Mr. President: you will NOT succeed in breaking my SPIRIT, PASSION and RESOLVE to fight for good governance, constitutionalism, Rule of law and social justice."
Uganda's High Court in Kampala is Monday expected to hear an application for an interim order stopping Mr Frank Tumwebaze, the Minister for Kampala and all persons acting under his authority, from proceeding with the vote of no confidence against the Lord Mayor.
