We have a case in Texas that has puzzled all of us up here for Texas is a no nonsense state regarding crime. But we have a case of a 16 year old Ethan Couch, that drunk and got three times over the limit, he was over dozed with drugs too, and he decided to drive a 4X4. He found a car stalled on a high way and people trying to restart it, this kid plowed into it, and created a pile of  such an accident that was brutal. At the end of the day, 4 people died on the sport, and 11 injured in this single accident. He was brought to court and he plead guilty of impair driving causing death, it was interesting for The Prosecutor did not ask for a death sentence but he asked for 20 years incursoration. Here is where it gets better. His lawyer stood up and put up such a defense I have never heard about, he said the kid was guilty but the court must recognize that he grew up with a problem called “Affluenza” This is when a child grows up in a very rich family and he grows up knowing that all his actions have no consequences, because money solves every problem. At any point of this kid’s growing up he has been with parents that throw money at everything that he does wrong, and a whole whack of money. So inside his brain when  he was driving that car that night, he knew he was drunk and he knew he was drugged up, and he knew also that if he makes any damage out there, the money is available to fix it. Your honor we are asking for a suspended sentence and to send this kid for treatment for he has a medical problem but not in jail for he is not a criminal.

 

Apparently the judge agreed with the defense and did not send him to jail but gave him a 10 year suspended sentence with a mandatory counseling. He is out and free, and the whole world is waaaaaay flipped up. In all times I have followed cases this is the most bizarre defense and it is fascinating that it worked. And if it worked in Texas, trust me it works everywhere. We are only interested into what you as a human being believed into when you committed this crime. Wow !!!!!!!!!!!! Can one plead not guilty due to poverty too when we are at it? That is what we need tested on books now.
