Two Asian Pharmacists at Zee Pharmacy have Been Brought to Book for Selling Fake Drugs
By Ronald Nahabwe
Police in Kampala have arrested two Asian pharmacists who have been selling expired drugs to patients around Kampala.
Ali Rizwan and Pashe Muhammad all Indian nationals working at Zee Pharmacy were arrested in the wee hours of Friday morning by police after their boss a one Malik reported their shoddy business to Central Police Station.
Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson Ibin Senkumbi told the press that the two could get the expired drugs which are poisonous for human consumption, change labels and expiry dates, and sell them to their innocent customers. It is suspected that the two could have been involved in this unfaithful business for almost a year.
It has been established that Malik picked interest in their behind curtain business after receiving information from one of the workers these two were involved with.
Senkumbi narrated that Malik recorded a statement at CPS on how these two cunning pharmacists could trick him that the pharmacy had run shortage of medicine and after giving them money, they could go and pick the expired drugs and park them in the shelves as a new stock.
Their vice was later discovered after patients kept complaining about drugs bought from Zee pharmacy branches which worsen their illness after using them.
Police first arrested Ali Rizwan who was on night duty at Kampala road branch, who later revealed his accomplice Pashe Muhammad after interrogations. A few hours later, police detectives stormed Pashe’s residence on Kampala road, and on searching his house, they discovered him hiding shs47m, which he confessed to have got from selling the expired drugs.
Police have opened file vide CRB2459/2013 against the two and very soon they will be paraded in court on charges of forgery and dispensing illegal drugs for public consumption. Investigations are on going to arrest other people who have been dealing with them.
