The Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) candidate for the Bungoma Senatorial seat Moses Wetang'ula has opened a wide lead as results trickle in.

By 7:30pm, Wetang'ula was leading his closest rival Musikari Nazi Kombo by a margin of 37, 586 votes as Kombo had garnered 40, 209 votes in 529 stations of the 942.

6:38pm: The gap in Bungoma poll results seems to be widening. Moses Wetangula has 18,638 votes against closest challenger Musikari Kombo with 11,383 votes. David Makali 295 votes, Sylvester Wakoli 231 votes

6:34pm: In Bomachoge Borabu parliamentary by-election, the results have started coming in. With one station reporting Peter Maranga Kimori (ODM)has 120 votes followed by Joel Omagwa Onyancha (TNA) with 33 votes. Albert Mbaka Nyaundi of Ford-P has 6 votes.

Provisional results in the Bungoma senatorial and Bomachoge-Borabu by-elections have started trickling in as vote counting underway.

In Bungoma County, Mr Wetangula lost the seat following a successful petition by Mr Kombo. The by-election has been reduced to a two-horse race pitting the political bigwigs.

The Thursday poll was characterised by low voter turnout amid heavy security.

There were indications that the winner of Bungoma senatorial by-election could be known much earlier because of the turnout.
