Uganda wins again, Museveni fulfils pledge

H.E. the president of Uganda Gen. Yoweri Museveni has fulfilled his pledge to the Uganda Netball Federation (UNF) it had earlier requested to cater for the team's travel to the ongoing Six Nations Cup in Singapore.

The pledge of (sh102,900,000 million) was wired into the UNF's account on Wednesday. 

The money comes in five days after the team's departure for the weeklong contest that kicked off on Sunday.

The team would have failed to take part if it wasn't for the Ministry and the National Council of Sports (NCS) who rescued them with 12 air tickets following the The New Vision story the brought their plight to light.  

That grabbed the attention of many concerned parties according to the team's spokesperson Joslyn Uchandi.

"We thank the President for showing his support to the team and also thank the speaker of parliament Hon Rebecca Kadaga for being our mouthpiece to his Excellency," Uchandi said.

"I still want to recognize New Vision for highlighting our struggles. The team will be refunded for all the additional expenses they incurred during travel and the rest will be saved for any future call," she added.

And due to the supplementary funds in the treasury, UNF has flown two more players Rachael Nanyonga (GA) and Alice Nanteza (WA) who were earlier dropped due to lack of funds.

They were accompanied by the federation's Chairperson Suzan Anek and Uchandi.

The two players are likely to strengthen the team ahead of Friday's encounter against Sri Lanka who are 23rd in the world rankings.

In Wednesday's action, Uganda put up another impressive performance to walloped hosta Singapore 60-32 at the Toa Payoh Sports Hall.

The She Cranes bossed the entire 60 minutes and went into halftime with a commanding 27-20 lead and were relentless in restricting the opposition to only 8 points in the fourth quarter.

The win puts Uganda level at the top of the six-team league on 5 points with Papua New Guinea after three games, one better than Friday's opposition Sri Lanka after four games.
