Lorry Drivers have maintained that they will NOT cross the border into the DRC until they are assured of their security by the Congolese government.

Meanwhile Government has engaged the Congolese Foreign Affairs ministry to find a lasting solution to the impasse at Kasumbalesa border following the shooting to death of a Zambian driver by a Congolese soldier.

The protest by Zambian Lorry Drivers at Kasumbalesa Border Post has entered day 4.

Drivers coordinator for Copperbelt MISHECK NGULUBE has told ZNBC news in Kitwe that the drivers will be meeting the Copperbelt minister on Tuesday.

And Home Affairs Deputy minister NICKSON CHILANGWA who say government has engaged the Congo DR authorities, says the shooting, which was carried out by an overzealous individual, is unfortunate.

Meanwhile, Forty seven people have been arrested and charged with riotous behavior following Sunday’s riots in Luanshya.

Residents of Minkomfwa rioted and looted shops belonging to Congolese nationals following the shooting of a Zambian driver PATRICK MWILA by a Congolese soldier in that country.

Copperbelt Police Commissioner JOYCE KASOSA says two vehicles were damaged in the fracas that left four police officers injured.

The Copperbelt police Chief however says the value of the property that was destroyed in the riot has not yet been established.

Ms KASOSA says calm has returned to the mining town but that police are still patrolling the area to ensure that order is maintained.

She has appealed to the residents of Luanshya be patient and desist from taking the law into their own hands.
