Folks:

The e-mail below landed in my in-box and it got me thinking/wondering about the intentions of some of our leaders within UNAA. It appears that Mr. Kimbugwe is on a quest to establish a Constitutional Review Committee to assess his and what his cohorts "perceive" to be anomalies in UNAA's current Constitution and present those items for a vote at the AGM in San Diego.

Which is all good, except it begs the question: Who commissioned Mr. Kimbugwe to undertake this exercise (Mr. Kimbugwe being a current member of the Electoral Commission) and his co-partner mentioned in the posting being a current member of the UNAA Board of Trustees (Mr. Wilson) who also happens to be the UNAA president who presided over the formulation of our current Constitution. Are all the members of these branches of UNAA involved and do they sanction this endeavor? Not to mention the Council which as we have been told is fragmented and has not operated as a unit since the election in Dallas.

What got UNAA in the impasse it finds itself in today? The simple answer is the UNAA executive refused to accept the collective decisions/opinions of the Electoral Commission and the UNAA Board of Trustees (bodies that both these gentlemen grace), claiming bias/ambiguities in the articles of our guiding document etc.

So, Are we being told that if the current document condemns one's action(s), it is OK to go ahead and create one that does not? Again, just asking.

In my humble opinion,  if UNAA is to heal, undertaking such an enormous/organization changing exercise should involve all stakeholders if its results are to stand up to scrutiny in the light of day. Otherwise factional initiatives will simply prolong and widen our divide.

Good Morning Ladies,

I certainly pray and hope you are all in good health as we wind down our off year as EC members. As you may be aware, some of our challenges during the recently concluded elections were due to a non-cohesive constitution that needed great reforming prior to the next elections.

While, our beloved organization has been strained by our ideological differences as to how the constitution should be interpreted, there is no doubt we all agree it needs to be tightened up. Which brings me to the reason of my communication. Unaa is currently in search of volunteers to serve on an interim CRC.

Their main purpose would be to review key articles of the constitution that could adversely affect membership as well as future elections and present workable revisions for a vote at the AGM.

Please, if you know of any community members in your respective areas that you think would be suited for this cause, please forward me or Moses Wilson their names.

Regards,
Michael Kimbugwe
