{UAH} Archbishop Obbo of Tororo to receive pallium today in Rome
The newly appointed Archbishop of Tororo Archdiocese in eastern Uganda
will today be among the 24 prelates, including five from Africa, who will receive
the sacred pallium from Pope Francis in St Peter's Basilica Rome.
The Pallium is an ecclesiastical pall given to a metropolitan archbishop as symbol of authority
over other bishops falling under his authority in his province.
Archbishop Emmanuel Obbo, formerly Bishop of Soroti.Diocese, was recently appointed to the
archepiscopal see of Tororo under whose authority fall the Dioceses of Jinja, Soroti, Moroto and Kotido.
A very highly scholarly individual with degrees from America, Emmanuel Obbo belongs to the native
Congregation of the Apostles of Jesus founded in Moroto by late Italian Sisto Mazzoldi some forty years ago.
The Congregation is reported very dynamic and is vastly expanding every year.
The Rome ceremony will take place at 9.30 am ( Rome Time ).
The pallium is normally given on June 29, which in the Catholic Church marks the solemnity of the Apostles
St Peter and St Paul, and it's a ceremony which is followed by millions of people all over the world, thanks to
modern media communication. And today's event will be televised live in Europe, etc...
Other African prelates to receive the symbolic pall, together with our Obbo, will include the following prelates :
1- Archbishop Gabriel Ahegunurin of Ibadan Nigeria
2- Archbishop Thomas Luke Msusa of Blantyre Malawi
3- Archbishop Benjamin Marc Ramaroson of Antsiranana Madagascar
4- Archbishop Damian Denis Dallu of Songea Tanzania
Of course these African prelates will receive wild cheers and ululations from the vast congregation among whom
will be compatriots from Italy and other European countries in addition to the faithful who have accompanied them
right from Africa!
A good day to Ugandans in France who will feel proud of watching their Obbo live on French TV.
G.H.K.
