{UAH} Methods used by Baganda kings to conquer neighboring territories.
A few readers of my postings on Buganda have complained that I am using foreign Europeans) sources of the information I am posting.
First of all if those who are complaining have alternative sources from African writers let them provide the information to readers.
Secondly, it should not be so much about the source of information but the substance contained in the postings.
I have now found a book written by a Uganda author and the information contained there in is not different from foreign authors. Gordon Kamugunda Kahangi has written in his book titled A History of East Africa From Ancient to Modern Times, published in 2003. Regarding the methods used Kahangi writes "At the beginning of the 17th century, Kateregga conquered Butambala, Gomba, Busujju and southern Singo. He achieved much in expanding the kingdom, but was regarded as a dictator. He was very violent and once nearly wiped out a whole clan.
"The next big expansion took place in the eighteenth century during the reign by Mawanda…..He invaded Busoga, killed many people, burnt houses and looted property".
The message given here as from other authors is that going back to the so called good old days will take us back to those days where the strong did whatever they wanted to the weak. And this is not acceptable in 21st century Uganda.
