{UAH} TO THE BUISNESS PEOPLE IN UGANDA

Friends

If you do business in Uganda I need you to follow the frustration we have especially from/in diaspora. For many times I have struggled to explain to Ugandans  that moving from landlines to cells has a greater disadvantage to Uganda as a country.  And I have made this argument based on the fact that the cells are temporary but that system is built on voice communication than data and voice. When Uganda fails to build its system to carry data you fail also to use the net, think about this, what age do you see a Ugandan applying for a net service in his home? We fail in this because the system is simply not built but the country is not wired. When you compare the prices of the cell themselves, it costs me almost 4 times to reach a number in Uganda than in Kenya Tanzania let alone Rwanda. Why when we have such a powerful satellite system in the country? Because the country is not wired up.

I need to add a new problem that I have not listed before. Because Uganda businesses are using cells, to deal with them you need to know the owners of such cells. Land lines belong to companies but cells belong to individuals. And that is how far we failed to realize. When you look for a paper like Uganda Observer they have even a cell listed on their website, what happens is that whoever owns that cell if he changes the provider that cell goes and that means that those that listed it have lost communication. Land lines remain permanent, for example from ages and ages ago, Mulago hospital used a number 54001 we all grew up knowing that number and all listings advertisements had that number, when Kampala added a 2 it changed to a 254001, again as a publicly known number and in all documentations. Uganda posts used to be 56151 and changed accordingly. But now we have numbers starting with 7, some have 77, some have God knows what.

We now have started to get a huge complaint that Uganda businesses are not having permanent communications because they have no listed numbers. When you deal with a company, you need to know a particular person and that person’s cell number.  That is not to do business with any country than Uganda, for people get laid off they resign or change service providers, and those cell change. I know someone in Uganda distillery and I know her cell number, the question becomes what does the person that does not know that cell do?  And why do you foolishly put the land line numbers on your website when you know the number does not work anymore? Now when you go to Emails they are as daft as the phone numbers, you will send an Email and it comes back with the Email is not in service, or Email post has tried and cannot deliver, will not try again to deliver contact your provider, or a simply stupid message. Do you know what is a stupid  message when you send an Email? It says the mail box is full and has no space to take your Email. Are you kidding me !!!!!! So someone has a company, she has an Email address she has registered publicly but she does not check it to a point of being full? How do you get in touch? Better yet how do you do business without being in touch? And by the way this includes  government ministries and agencies as well. Uganda cells are too expensive to reach and from any country, but 3/4s of Uganda cells have a message “The number you have reached cannot be reached at this moment   -Try latter”   Really do you know how many countries we can do business with and can be reached?

These are not failures made by Museveni but by the very same failures we saw in Bugiri hospital where people do not care about today to fix for tomorrow. No one instructed you to establish a business in Uganda you made that decision yourself, honestly communicating to people is of value to you. I have no reason sitting in a conference of investment people and Uganda gets pointed out as the only country with no communication in 2014, honestly I don’t. Yes you can decide to live in a zoo so called crapy country but the rest of the world is moving on and very fast thank you. And at the time you will wake up from Malwa Kwete Omuramba and women selling their body as I have seen on a Utube tonight of a woman that refused to get out of a motel for the client she was pimped to has ran away before paying, the rest of the world is going to be 5,000 km from Ugandan and Ugandans. At the end of the day you will hurt. Did you know that Uganda business people do not have business directory? I just leant it today. Well if you work in Kikuubo and you have a cell from UTL and tomorrow you will have a cell from a different provider how do you register that business?

Can some idiot out there open an office in a home, put 5 land lines and the rest of you fools register them as your company numbers with one secretary permanently employed and paid, at a very nominal fee each?

Or you still need The World bank to do it for you as well?                Geeeeeeez !!!!!!!!
