{UAH} Why the number of listeners on Radio Munansi has doubled

This is so because we are discussing important issues. We are innovative, are bold and clarifying contentious issues. Here are some examples.

1.     Contrary to popular belief, the 1955 Namirembe Agreement between the Protectorate and Buganda government did not replace the 1900 Uganda Agreement. The 1900 Agreement remained in force (E. M. Aseka 2005). The Kabaka became a constitutional monarch. Buganda remained a province as defined in paragraph 3 of the 1900 Agreement. Paragraph 3 states "The Kingdom of Uganda[Buganda] in the administration of Uganda Protectorate shall rank as a province of equal rank with any other provinces into which the Protectorate may be divided"(J. V. Wild 1950);

2.     Buganda means the land of Baganda which might explain why the Lukiiko on May 20, 1966 asked the central government "to remove itself" from the soil of Buganda before May 30, 1966. The central government interpreted this as an act of rebellion that had to be stopped hence the military attack on Kabaka's palace that lasted 12 hours of intense fighting (T. V. Sathyamurthy 1986). The calls for non-Ugandans to leave Buganda soil are still being heard today;

3.     When Uganda acquired independence in 1962, it was neither a monarchy nor a republic. It was simply called "The Sovereign State of Uganda". The position of Buganda in  Uganda remained a source of controversy ( E. M. Aseko 2005);

4.     The first amendment of Uganda's independence constitution provided that "if for any reason the president was unable to sign a bill into law, the prime minister would do so and the law would take effect as if it had been duly signed by the president"(G. S. Ibingira 1980);

5.     Was Prime Minister  Obote right in accusing President Mutesa of the following as reasons for assuming all powers of government in 1966?: Obote "accused the Kabaka of several constitutional breaches – including his refusal to sign the 'Lost Counties' referendum bill; his refusal to open parliament after the referendum had taken place; more serious, his ordering troop movements without consulting or even informing the Prime Minister or Felix Onama, the Minister of Defense; and, most serious of all, his unauthorized approach to certain foreign embassies requesting their governments for military help"(T. V. Sathyamurthy 1986).

These are some of the issues that have attracted more listeners to Radio Munansi. We urge more to listen to our programs.

This is part of civic education.
