The LDC Court yesterday sentenced Ex-UPDF soldier to 2weeks of community service for stealing two envelopes of offertories at Synagogue Church of all Nations located in Mulago Ku-Biiri.
Simon Ngasirweki, 46, a former UPDF soldier residing in Kyebando-Kisalosalo, Kawempe division Kampala, was sentenced to two weeks Community service at Synagogue Church of all Nations after pleading guilty to charges of stealing two envelopes of offertory money worth sh13,000 during a church service that was conducted by Samuel Kakande.
Ngasirweki, a pickup driver pled guilty to the offence and requested the magistrate to give him a fair sentence since he is undergoing medication.
"I am undergoing medication for HIV which has weakened my body, so I request for a fair punishment," the convict asked court.
Asked why he stole the offertory yet he had initially told court that he had gone to church to be blessed, Ngasirweki told court that it was Satan who tempted him to steal.
In response, Grade One Magistrate Jolly Nkore Shwandah convicted the accused to two weeks community service at Synagogue Church of all Nations where he will be working four hours a day as well as pay back the money he stole.
State Prosecutor, Lydia Mbabazi told court that this is the second time Ngasirweki is convicted of stealing offertory at the same church where is a member of the flock.
"In April this year, he committed the same offence but there was no evidence to pin him. So he should be given a formidable sentence so that he can reform," Mbabazi says.
Court heard that on May 25, 2014, Ngasirweki stole shs13,000 offertory from the collection basket while attending prayers at Synagogue Church of all Nations.
John Kakooza, one of the ushers in the church alerted security which arrested Ngasirweki and charged him with stealing offertories before arraigning him before court.
