During a late-night emergency meeting on Sunday, the U.N. Security Council called for an immediate end to the hostilities in the Gaza Strip following a bloody day of Israel's attack on the Shujaiyeh neighborhood, where at least 60 Palestinians and 13 Israeli troops were killed.

Gaza Health Ministry officials said that at least 550 Palestinians have been killed since Israel instituted Operation Protective Edge on 8 July 2014.
The United Nations estimated that 70% of the dead Palestinians were civilians.
Twenty-five Israeli soldiers have also died, including three believed killed by 'friendly fire' and two dual US Israeli citizens.
On Monday, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry headed to Cairo for a new round of negotiations to end the two weeks of deadly fighting.
A press statement issued by the U.N. Security Council expressed "serious concern at the escalation of violence," and called for the protection of civilians under international humanitarian law and that it was troubled by the growing number of casualties.
Kerry said that the U.S. supports the Egyptian proposal for a halt to the hostilities, which Israel readily accepted, but Hamas rightly rejected because they were NOT consulted:
READ WHAT HAMAS WANTS AND AMERICANS NEED TO KNOW
The United Nations is sending supplies into Gaza in what Chris Gunness, spokesman for the U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees, described as a "massive humanitarian airlift."
"In the coming days, more airlifts are scheduled to arrive in Amman, from where UNRWA will truck the aid into Gaza for distribution," he said on Twitter.
In response the IDF tweeted, "While Hamas continues its attacks, tons of goods are reaching Palestinians in Gaza from Israel".
IGNORING THE FACT THAT UNDER INTERNATIONAL LAW THE OCCUPIERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE HUMANITARIAN NEEDS OF THE OCCUPIED and Israel's so-called 2005 disengagement of Gaza was nothing more than a redeployment for Israel has continued to maintain total control of Gaza's air, water and land borders!
On Sunday, Obama spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and reiterated U.S. condemnation of Hamas attacks against Israel "and reaffirmed Israel's right to defend itself" but NOT a word from the Nobel Prize Laurette President about Palestinian RIGHTS!
The U.N. was the body that created Israel whose very Statehood was contingent upon upholding the U.N. UNIVERSAL DECLARATION of HUMAN RIGHTS!
On November 29, 1947 a United Nations General Assembly resolution recommended the adoption and implementation of a plan of partition of Palestine which was one of the earliest acts of the United Nations.
As of January 2010, the United Nations Security Council, has adopted 79 resolutions directly critical of Israel for violations of U.N. Security Council resolutions, the U.N. Charter, the Geneva Conventions, international terrorism, or other violations of international law.
This followed the report of the United Nations Special Committee on Palestine and ever since the U.N. has maintained a central role in this region, especially by providing support for Palestinian refugees via the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and by providing a platform for Palestinian political claims via the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, the United Nations Division for Palestinian Rights, the Special Committee to Investigate Israeli Practices Affecting the Human Rights of the Palestinian People, the United Nations Information System on the Question of Palestine (UNISPAL) and the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
The UN has also sponsored several peace negotiations between the parties, the latest being the 2002 Road map for peace.
The United States has vetoed most Security Council decisions critical of Israel on the basis of their so-called biased language and the so-called Negroponte doctrine.
On 29 November 2012, the UN General Assembly adopted United Nations General Assembly resolution 67/19 changing Palestine's "entity" status to "non-member state" by a vote of 138 to 9, with 41 abstentions.
This implicitly recognized Palestine's sovereignty but the USA did NOT!
During my first of so far eight investigative journeys to both sides of The Wall in the so-called Holy Land, American Israeli Professor Jeff Halper told me that when the leaders of the world signed onto the UN UNIVERSAL DECALATATION of HUMAN RIGHTS they never imagined the people of the world holding them to it!
It was also during my first trip to the so-called Holy Land that I committed to write The Vanunu Saga UNTIL Israel allowed its Nuclear Whistleblower Mordechai Vanunu his RIGHT to leave the so-called 'only democracy in the Middle east'.

We the People of the World PAY THE SALARIES of our so called leaders so it is up to us to get in their face and demand they uphold their obligations as Member States of the U.N. UNIVERSAL DECLARATION of HUMAN RIGHTS:
"Everyone has the right to leave any country, including his own, and to return to his country."-Article 13:2
As of this publication 5,515 people 'LIKE' Free Vanunu at Facebook
7,790 [out of the 21,364 members of TNT] have signed the Petition to Israel and MEDIA "We are not free until Vanunu is FREE"
When 10,000 have signed that Petition it will be snail mailed to Israel's Interior Minister Gideon Sa'ar, Bibi, Peres, Judge Grunis and the Top Corporate Media outlets in the USA who have ALL failed to report on Vanunu's struggle for his RIGHT to leave the so-called only democracy in the Middle East and because they have FAILED to report accurately regarding Israel Gaza Palestine!
