Friends:
This is the best man I ever knew. I'm sure people will write songs about him some day. This is my grandfather, Hajji Hassan Kibirige, and now over 100 years old. He loves God, himself and others. He is respected because he has always respected others(young and old). Little things fathers and grandfathers do can change the life of a child forever. In my case, this change sprang from the respect and love I had/ have for my grandfather. He taught me to think and plan; he taught me the little Islam I know ; he used to give us money for the jobs we did at his farm to encourage us to work; he used to buy me clothes every time he visited UK or USA;he provided for me and other orphans at his house without complaining; he is one person who has never hurt me at all- he only showed me love; he is one person who always believes in me; he sacrificed all to give me the education; he used to encourage us to drink porridge with milk added to it for breakfast because he rightly believed it was good for brain development. He used to tell me funny stories about almost all my aunties and uncles. He has at least 64 grand children (those who are known).
Inishallah, we shall keep him in our prayers as long as we live……..you see, one of the best duas when praying is called the 'ATAHIYATU'(if you get its translation), and this is something I first learned off him before i even made it to 10 yrs old. He used to encourage me to stand next to him when praying and he could loudly murmur all the words in ATAHIYATU, and i didn't know why at the time. But now I know it was for my own benefit and other kids, because I learned it without sitting in front of any Mu'alim. …….So, if I cant pray for such a person, I would be doing a deservice to myself!
Nakintu Sylvia(Kampala): friends will keep him in prayer, he used to give us bananas. ?.and I now I hold the tradition of banana sharing
Abbey Kibirige Semuwemba: Nakintu Sylvia:the practice of giving out bananas to kids is something I would also love to do, but its difficult to execute here in England as you can only do that with kids whose parents you know very well. By the way, Hajji used to give even to the old and poor especially on Fridays after Juma prayers. He was famous for this at that Mosque in Bwaise(Kampala) and the one at Kangulumira(Bugerere)…………he also used to pay guys that would kill snakes at our village at Kisega. People could kill snakes on their land but bring it to him to pay. He rightly observed that a snake has no borders…….it doesn't know which land is owned by who. It could cross and bite you from your neighbour's land.
Hassan Bogere: Abbey Kibirige Semuwemba- I can see the resemblance in face with your grandfather. Hope u take even a third of what he used to do considering the world we live in. Hisory shows that Great men like him never produce great sons and great grandkids like him. But as Amelia Earhart said:'"Some of us have great runways already built for us. If you have one, take off. But if you don't have one, realize it is your responsibility to grab a shovel and build one for yourself and for those who will follow after you."
Niya Hicken(London): He has lived a wonderful life and been a great example to all of us. He is always in my prayers. Ill try the best I can to be kind and considerate of everyone around me and continue his legacy
Meddy Taata Mai(Malaysia): Tears in my eyes while reading ur post Abbey Kibirige Semuwemba.i would hv written the same about our grandfather.truly a very unique and extra ordinary gentleman. All we can do to repay him is keep him in our prayers.
Hassan Bogere: The following are two Duas from the Quran that one can make for their parents:1-"My Lord! Bestow on them Your Mercy as they did bring me up when I was small." [Quran; Surah Al-Isra, Verse 24]; ……..2-"Our Lord! Forgive me and my parents, and (all) the believers on the Day when the reckoning will be established." [Quran: Surah Ibrahim, Verse 41]
Mariam Nalukemge(Kampala): Alhamdulilah:we can never be more proud….to be part of this wonderful generation…a very big legacy indeed!!!!
Sheikh Hamid Sserwadda: All u talked about him are true and correct, add on that he loves so much Imaams and Sheikhs .
Ibrahim Kalungi Kabanda(London): A man who has achieved everything what a land mark he has put on this planet his legacy will live forever , May Allah accept all your deeds and we still enjoy your words of wisdom
Shuruq Bint-Mariam(USA): The greatest man alive, subhanAllah. We are so blessed to call him Jajja.

Without God, our week would be: Sinday, Mournday, Tearsday,Wasteday, Thirstday, Fightday & Shatterday. Remember seven days without God makes one WEAK!!"And if Allah touches you with harm, none can remove it but He, and if He touches you with good, then He is Able to do all things." (6:17)
