Otwal sub-country Youth representative, Phillips Ogile, has been found guilty of causing grievous harm and sentenced to one-year imprisonment or a fine.

The verdict was delivered by Lira Chief Magistrate, John Francis Kaggwa.

Ogile on August 26, 2011 used a panga to cut his former girlfriend Stella Akello, a mother of 3 during a domestic quarrel.

The Magistrate sentenced Ogile to fine of sh 500, 000 or one-year imprisonment and also ordered him to compensate the complainant sh2m, all to be paid before he regains his freedom.

Kaggwa said Ogile's case warrants custodial sentence but because of his mitigation, he gave him an option of a fine.

Stella Akello in her testimony said Ogile cut her with panga over food.

She said Ogile was arrested and taken to Ojwina Police station from where he was transferred to Lira CPS and then taken to court where he was granted bail.

The victim who looked gloomy throughout the session welcomed the verdict. "This should be a lesson to him and others who like beating their spouses
